More like bookies trying to entice some cash off of Leicester fans for something very unlikely
To put it into perspective you can get 5000/1 on Aliens landing or Elvis being alive!
100/1 would have been fairer as an actual probability as once every 100 seasons you may get this type of league winner
Bookies will be laughing, a few big sums paid out from small stakes yes, but think of the 1000s of bets taken on United, City, Chelsea and even on Liverpool from deluded it's our year types! Also most people's pick the winner of every division accas have gone down - this will dwarf the sums paid out on Leicester
Your 100-1 is bar say five of the big spenders winning the league, not one outsider in particular.
And I think we all knew the whinging bookmakers were merely marketing their services.

This suggests they've taken a whacking loss.

All good publicity with the we've been beaten rubbish. Just imagine how many millions are staked on the supposed top 4 pre season that they've banked but not told you. Even half way through the season Leicester were still a big price and would've been layed just to be safe. It's a phenomenal result for the bookies and great publicity at the same time that they couldn't have bought.

Man utd winning the European cup ten years after the Munich air disaster was quite an achievement also Nikki Lauder nearly got burnt to death in a car and six weeks later he was back competing, to then go on the following year to win the formula one title

We've paid out £5.6 million. So hardly miniscule. Only had about 60 punters on Leciester at a daft price but momentum gained through the season and they were still good value into March.
Betfred on the other hand are claiming £1m + pay out (which is huge for them and the size of their company) but those losses are actually only around 600k - and they take a lot of bets each year from Liverpool and Manchester United fans due to Fred and how he goes about his business. If Liverpool ever won the title Fred would be in trouble.

read it all - a bit further down:
But bookmakers won't have lost out overall, admits Ladbroke's Alex Donoghue.
Although Ladbrokes are losing £3m on Leicester this week, throughout the season a lot of bets were placed on the favourites, such as Chelsea and Manchester City, which will have more than cushioned the blow.
"£3m is a record net payout for a title winner, but we did well out of Leicester upsetting the odds to get there. No complaints at all," he tweeted.
Ladbrokes are "by no means crying out in pain" over the season in general, says Mr Donoghue.
Bookmakers do best when a second or third favourite team wins the title, he says

Given the fact they also had John Jensen Denmark's achievement was probably better
