Although it didn't quite work out, will wish him well...and remember that cruncher of a tackle that echoed around the Proact, against Coventry!
The Coventry player on the receiving end certainly will

The big dissapointment was allowing him to pass his set number of games which triggered a pay rise and the remainder of his deal. Mark Smith when in charge was told not to trigger the deadline, when he explained things to Herd he said 'Don't worry Mark that passed 3 games ago'
To me that about sums everything about our set up.

I didn't see him at Fleetwood but the one half-decent game I saw him in was at Walsall - crunching tackle to win the ball and perfect cross for SEB to head in in for our first, and I seem to think he was involved in winning the corner from which we scored for the second - not sure about the second though. At that point I thought he might be OK with more games and fitness under his belt but if anything his fitness went the other way.

Seb will be getting a fair whack. Hopefully he has another club lined up and he might take a lower pay off than otherwise.
Has it been confirmed that SEB is getting paid off?

Or perhaps the CEO who was recruited to oversee footballing matters better than his predecessor.
A story I was told went something like this: Saunders was so desperate/convinced of Herd's potential he allegedly ignored advice from our chief physio, who'd supposedly been told by the surgeon that reconstructed the player's knee it could turn to jelly at any time, even to the point of not insisting on a full medical, to hand him a deal which contained a clause extending his contract after a certain number of appearances - and with a significant rise.
Then following Saunders' sacking Smith was reportedly informed of this and instructed not to play the former Villa man in case he triggered that clause.
Unfortunately Turner had got it wrong as Herd had already pulled on a shirt enough times to confirm his lucrative position, meaning Danny Wilson had that much less room for manoeuvre post January.
A real mess and maybe a metaphor for the whole sorry state of our club over the last year or more.
Baseless nonsense or a reasonably credible account?
As always I'll allow 'Bob's Board' members to decide for themselves.

If that is true, it's shameful.

No reason to doubt it, Herd was clearly frozen out of the first team picture for a while, I can't remember the exact words but when questioned Mark Smith did make a comment to the interviewer he'd be better directing the question to Turner before moving quickly on.
Saunders also made no secret of the fact he was trying to tie him down to a long term deal
