Howdie,

Long time reader... first time poster.

Firstly, I am a bit of an exile, so havn't seen as much as I would have liked over the last two seasons. But this isn't a post about who is or isn't good enough.

Having enjoyed the best world cup I can remember, I think there are some important things we can take away from the "lesser" teams. If you watched the games, you'll have been impressed with the likes of Costa Rica, Iran, USA and Chile. These teams were full of "lower standard" players, I even witnessed the dude from Wigan finding the net!

What's that got to do with our situation? As we stand, it seems unlikley that we'll be one of the "big" teams in the league, we are not going to be signing any big names.

But... How much will that matter during the season? A certain ex-captain has shown that a similar type of spirit shown by the "lesser" world cup teams can lead to amazing acheivements in the league.

It could be a long season, but maybe, just maybe, we can build a side with the spirit required to be successful, even if success is avoiding relegation.

good first post

Really? Reality to our current financial position and the reasons for the club tLking to players like Higdon have no bearing on the current club/fan relation ship ship? Or expectations? Or the attitude of the casual supporter, you know, the one that really makes a difference to finances matters not? As long as he is positive about the club it's a good post? If that's the case your as full of it as Turner
A new hope.

Cartman could twist liquidation into a positive for the club. A new beginning etc.

no I couldn't

just the negativity for negativities sake is pathetic

all the doom and gloom and talk of just like 2011 is ridiculous

I speak as someone who did not miss a game with Rushbury in charge, barely missed one when Richardson was in charge, believe me I wasn't as positive about the club in those days!

Anyone being ridiculously negative at the moment has a very short memory

We are going into a season with a good if small squad, much better than what we had in 2011 and with the right additions whether they be permanent signings if the club can find the money or loanees we will have a decent enough L1 squad

I didn't miss a home game during the Rushbury & Richardson era's either.

To be fair, I know it would have got on my boobies a little when "casual" supports start running their mouth off about being positive etc... at times it's pretty tough trudging out to every game to watch the same old, same old. And then some dude who attends 1 game in 100 starts going on about being positive... yeah.. enough to get a slap.

Having said that, we haven't kicked a ball yet, so all the negativity is presumptive... I remember plenty of positivity surrounding pretty awful seasons. I've learnt to wait and see what a season brings.

My point is though, football is, and has always been, more than who has the big names. Especially at our level, when big hearts can carry a team. If you don't believe that, then you've not watched enough lower league football.

Also, I don't like the idea of being a "casual" fan... I think of those as people who live locally-ish and attend the odd game by choice... rather than not being able to afford the 6hour round trip very often. But yeah, maybe I am a casual fan now :(
