FAO Dtp - I have taken your advice and invested in a calculator. Strangely, Boden 10 goals, Denton 5 goals still adds up to a total of 15 between them.

If I'm wrong I accept I'm wrong and I apologise.

However, I didn't think Boden had got to 10 goals yet - possibly 9 after Saturday's.

Neither did I think Denton had scored 5 - I thought it was more like 2. Must admit I have not counted them up but I can't even remember the last time Tom's name appeared as a goalscorer.

i think you are right with 2, he was considerably more effevtive last season when chapman was crossing the ball into him, we saw through martin allen's tenure what we are seeing again now lumping balls to him from the keeper or back four percentage wise don't get us anywhere

You’re not wrong. Pretty sure he has 2. Not far off last seasons league tally also. Non offence to him as he works hard and he’s a likeable bloke off the pitch, but modern coaches like Evatt wouldn’t even entertain players like this in the squad, never mind the first 11.

It’s just all so bizarre after seeing how successful someone like Cook was with his modern methods, to regressing so far back to old school Neanderthal coaches at a ridiculous cost.

I was referring to Denton/Boden last season, as Denton missed a lot of games at the start of this season. Of course we were all happier watching Morsy, Ryan, Roberts, Clucas, Darikwa etc, but we are operating at a totally different level now, and we have to make the best of the limited players available. Having said that there are quite a few games where Sheridan doesn't appear to be making the best of it.

Stop using the league we are in as an excuse for having pathetic players and tactics. Again, look at Barrow, no budget but have a professional coaching set up and plans in place as seen from the videos Evatt has released. I’d love to see cameras at our training, it would be hilarious in comparison looking at how poorly we are drilled and set up on a match day. We’ll never progress if we persist with these outdated methods and shambolic recruitment. Embarrassing we didn’t learn from the Martin Allen appointment and repeated the same with another extortionate 3 year deal on an outdated manager.

The team Evatt has assembled at Barrow, full of pace with players comfortable on the ball , playing out from the back is the complete opposite of what we have.

This is all on a considerably less budget than we have.

Now im not saying Evatt is the answer to all our problems, but recruitment of this nature

PACE
YOUNGER HUNGRY PLAYERS

is surely the way to go

Unfortunately we signed the likes of

Gerrard - slow but experienced

Buchannan - experienced , again with no pace

Denton - extremely slow, no mobility and lump it to him method of football

There is not one player in our team that stands out with pace to threaten the opposition, yet we come up against it every week

For our current squad the blame lies with M.A and J.S with the type of players weve recruited.Until this changes then we will remain in this league for a long time.

Spot on. Experienced cloggers just don’t win this league anymore and wasted a fortune in the process.

Unfortunately it’s too late for Evatt now as he will no doubt have a league club lined up in the near future.

I agree that our recruitment has been extremely poor, and that we should have been able to acquire at least 2 or 3 players with more pace and skill than we have at the moment. We can either blame DA for not making sufficient funds available, or JS for not using his budget wisely, but the fact is that as soon as anyone runs at us with a bit of pace and energy, we simply cave in and ship goals for fun. The frustrating thing is that, as we showed v Notts County, we CAN stop teams if we press high up and stop them gaining momentum. I have no idea why we reverted, on Saturday, to dropping off deeper and deeper and allowing Chorley to run freely into our half of the pitch. That must go down to the manager.

Re-signing donkeys like Hollis and Weir is unforgivable.

We knew how bad they were but somehow they got new deals.

You didn't make it clear that you were referring to last season though.

There was me thinking in the present and you dwelling in the past. Yes, the Denton Boden partnership worked well last season but it isn't working so well this one. And, yes Denton did miss some matches at the start of this season but don't forget that he'd played in a fair few games before Boden arrived last season. I'll take your word for it that the partnership produced 15 goals last season but I think it needs to be said it hasn't produced many this season. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that most of Boden's 8 goals have come when Denton hasn't been on the pitch whilst Denton's return of 2 goals since his return equals Fondup's total after just one away game whether or not Boden was on the pitch when Tom scored.
