To put in my two penneth I think Cook is being proactive rather than reactive which is much more preferable. Is he possibly sowing seeds for the January window for strengthening input rather than panic buy / loan of players in a shoring up exercise.

Johnson is going, as much as we would like to see him stay, so he may as well change the team to accommodate this now. He has got 3 games to get minutes on the pitch for the likes of Banks and Gardner and still use Johnson as an impact sub. I would rather see this than get to the first game after Yeovil with players without match time.

I would also like to see Boco on the right to shore that side up defensively and try Gardner in the Johnson role, for me Clucas seems to work well with Jones on the left.

I also think that Margreitter is a very good centre back but in my opinion he and Evatt are very similar in style and it doesn't quite work as a pairing so possibly another centre back is a necessity because it will take time for Hird to get to match fitness

Boco on the right when we are away from home. Gives a bit more solidity.

Roberts can play in the Johnson position, or if he needs a rest JOS. At home I`d look at Gardner down the right and tell him to give the best 60 mins of his life, running like a mad man. Then swap with JOS.

Leave Clucas on the left with Jones

A new hope.

Morsy and Ryan are the defensive midfielders....

...they are deep lying midfielders, great on the ball but who, in the eyes of PC, arn't as defensive minded as he'd like them to be. Perhaps they don't spot danger quickly enough. That was certainly evident in the 50th minute on Tuesday.
Reading quickly through Wiki, the new man is 6 foot 3, hasn't scored many goals, has played left back so is probably left footed and good defensively. I'd venture to suggest he's a defensive midfielder. Perhaps we'll go 4-3-3.

Back to the Johnson issue. So, apparently the new loanee (no game time this season) goes straight into the team but Gardner needs game time. Start with Johnson, and if he he is playing well, finish with him I say.

It is madness not to play Johnson while we have him, play your best team available, worry about the next match or players returning when it comes. I just don't understand the thinking in leaving him on the bench the other night. As for if it ain't broken, well goals conceded plus one win in seven suggests something isn't right.
Performances on the whole have been good, however that isn't enough we are conceding to many goals, our over reliance on Doyle is starting to be quite noticeable and worrying. Our lack of a plan B even more so, our defending is very poor at times. Certain players need to step up a bit and stop making schoolboy errors.

....the thinking, from tonight, is that PC would rather our best prospects (Banks and Gardner) get up to speed whilst we still have a good player to replace them from the bench rather than ask them to get up to speed with no experienced replacement on the bench.

And if it doesn't work then I hope we go back to playing with Johnson in the hole for his last two appearances (both home games) as I want to savour the most of having such a fantastic and gifted player on loan with us. I will be really peeved if he's on the bench again! Let's face it if we signed Messi on loan, you wouldn't bench him for the same reason would you??? Shear madness is what that decision is and no one will convince me otherwise!!!
Let's face it Gardner/ Banks etc have to get up to speed at some point, so what's the difference now and after Johnson's gone? Nothing, that's what! Other than we've missed out on playing our best player when we should have. Johnson coming off the bench if needed I feel some will say, though that worked a treat Saturday didn't it? You play your best side available.

Either way, we have to go to Walsall and collect all three points. It's a game where we should be winning and will be interesting to see what the new changes add/ detract from the team.

I agree with you, but for what it's worth, the manager made a point last night of highlighting Johnson's lack of goals and contrasting that to the excellent statistics of Banks in that regard since he joined us.
