Just a heads up that next Tuesday at 9.15pm BBC1 are broadcasting "Britain’s Secret Charity Cheats" which covers the Sodje brothers case. I understand Ashley Carson who gave witness evidence for the prosecution at the Old Bailey features in the programme

https://www.bbc.co.u...rammes/m0005j8t

Sam Sodje questions why his brother Bright was arrested but the two other Directors Betts and Carson weren't. I hope the program clarifies why this was. I think it probable that Carson was hoodwinked, in a Turner kinda way.

As a former trustee of the Charity is of course the serious answer

What is most likely, Jeremy Kyle coming out of enforced retirement with his polygraph machine or Ashley rambling on about the whole unsavoury episode damaging his fine reputation?

Looks like it was on at 9:15 this morning not tonight so iPlayer\BBC website is the only option for watching it.

This bit is a bit ambiguous,

"The brothers were found guilty of defrauding the foundation through Ashley Carson, a businessman and director of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, and one of the city’s MPs, Clive Betts.

Once the pair was recruited to give the charity respectability in 2003, they started to siphon money to the Sodje family."

In one sentence they have made things sound dodgy and needs more explanation, ie Insinuating They recruited AC and CB to give respectability then they state Quote "Once the pair was recruited to give the charity respectability in 2003, they started to siphon money to the Sodje family."

IMHO insinuating that AC and CB started to siphon money to the Sodje family or am I reading it incorrectly?

It's an error, they joined the charity as trustees in 2009, it was after they left in 2013 it was alleged the brothers started to sihpon money direct to themselves, although in the programme AC concedes they had concerns that ought to have been forcibly raised before they quit

Anyone remember Stephen Vaughan convicted crook who once owned Chester City amongst others, now through his son Stephen Jnr they have made a right pigs ear of Bangor City who have been deducted 42 points! and subsequently relegated to the Welsh Alliance pending an appeal

Hmm, A concession that he could equally have applied to the supervision of Turner.

Do you happen to know what accounting qualifications Carson has?

I think we just have to accept Carson was an innocent victim of unscrupulous characters.

In the same way he was taken in by, say, Alnassar.

Or perhaps Bingham.

Or Turner.

Or Sutcliffe.

Or Fitzgerald.

Or Caldwell.

Or Branston.

Or Andrea Hooley.

Or spoof takeovers.

Or whoever thought a car boot sale would make money.

But hey, at least he saw through those Chinese 'tyre kickers'...

A question for those versed in company / charity law - You are appointed a Trustee of a charity. does that automatically make you a director, too?
It's nice to be able to Trust again.

He confirms then that he knew about possible shady practices between 2009 and 2013 but didn't do enough about them. This is the same guy who sat next to Turner at a public meeting in which Turner swore on the life of his children that he knew nowt about the fake raffle. and in which Turner reiterated that the DS was independent.

He doesn't say whether he passed on the reasons why they quit the charity to the authorities. His resignation letter would make interesting reading. Perhaps he could supply a copy of it to the DT.

Speaking of which, if you were a guardian of the Assay office, would you not get slightly concerned by all the bad publicity he brings to the place and as a minimum bar him from doing work outside of his day job (pretty sure his contract will say he needs permission of his employers to do other roles even if voluntary, mine does...).... maybe as it’s an opportune time I should ask them why they tolerate it?

Perhaps they have bigger concerns than Ashley. It was only a few years ago that one of their guardians was up to his neck in Sheffield Council's missing millions, the trading standards chap whose name escapes me.

Well I decided it would be remiss, on the back of the BBC doc, not to ask them... might have pointed out I knew one of the guardians a long time ago too, so hopefully he will reply ;)

Is now a bad time to ask whose name the Club's gaming licence is in?

And if that name's changed over the past twelve months?
