Only if unconscious (and even then very very rare)!
(Not in this case anyway)

But the reports and Barry himself say he was unconscious and did have a blocked airway.

Based on the job you do you're going to have a better medical/physiological knowledge than the average person. Please bear this in mind as its post like this that show you to be a bit condescending.

Yep apologies to Lindave who my question wasn't really to- can see why it came across as condescending 🙌🏼- was more the quote that he had nearly swallowed his tongue -which is a scary sounding thing but isn't a real thing and for the club or DT to say that is a bit unprofessional

We don't want tears at full time. We want assist, bravery, headers, tackles, interceptions, crosses. 1v1 dominance. I'm not falling for that. I do that with my Wife at least twice a week. Never works. Coming over nearly crying ?automatic can't be expected to do any of the above. Crocodile Tears not welcome in our position

It was one of those games. I was gutted we lost that, and I'm glad it hurt Barry as much as it hurt me. Pea hearted has been something our players have been accused of, well they weren't yesterday.
Certainly not crocodile tears from the player. He was hurting, they all were. That's good, it shows they care.
A new hope.

But they didn't say that, they quoted Barry as saying "my tongue was down my throat" nothing wrong with Lindave using a well worn term to describe such incidents.

I was just saying that it may be a well worn term but it's an urban myth - I'm trying to edumacate you ;-)

I am sure an English teacher will correct me, but isn't it more an idiom than an urban myth?

No you posted ' swallowed his tongue, where did that come from' nowhere in that post do you explain that its not possible or just an urban myth and then go on to apologise for being condescending only to follow it up with the post quoted.??

Um not sure Barry should have played on if he thought the ref put him in the recovery position, he pulled on his arm but at no time was he put into the recovery position.

Agreed- I remember thinking at the time that he should have been put into the recovery position in case he had swallowed his tongue, but then again I know nowt about First Aid and was probably wrong.
These go to eleven.

More of a misnomer that's entered common parlance, few probably actually believe the tongue actually gets swallowed but there's definitely some who do... it's not really a helpful name for it and only causes confusion.
I just don't know what I'm supposed to be
