Is attitude was all wrong.. many a time last season, after getting a few shouts from the east stand he came over and starting mouthing back.
At the Notts county game away this season at the final whistle when the lads came over to us one fan was giving him a bit of grief ( understandably) cos we were rammel
and he just started back givin it the large one... liked the lad but gud riddance to his attitude.....won't do nothing but be a bit part player...
Fair enough, but...
..I first spoke to Dion when he was in the 'Donkey Derby' with his family last year. He didn't stand out or make any attempt to, just a young man having a meal with the folks. As he was on the next table to mine I told him, truthfully, that I thought he was doing well and just to keep on listening to the Manager (Wilson, at the time) and working hard. He was as humble as he was appreciative.
Dion's since tapped me on the shoulder a number of times, merely for a friendly conversation, proving a thoroughly honest and grounded lad. Certainly not the kind to seek confrontation (not doubting your word, mind) or, for that matter, a move away.
But when I asked him about Caldwell during what proved to be our last exchange he merely shrugged his shoulders and pulled a face.
As I've said before DD wasn't quite a left back, lacked the pace to be a winger and never really had the chance to secure the central berth he was signed to fill. But he always seemed to give his all wherever he played.
Dion Donahue has moved on as has CFC. I hope both benefit from those moves.
