You said he was drunk off in various hostelries

Haha, I didn't (but now you say). I said he tells all and sundry how drunk off he is [with the lack of backing, etc]

There are good drunks and bad drunks.

Some blokes are "a-ok" then turn into knob heads when they've had a couple of snifters.
Dancers are considered mad by those who cant hear music.

Or hint in interview that Pompey have every right to talk who they want to now, not after the season end, and tell all and sundry in various hostelries how drunk off he is. My worry is that virtually every post on here regarding the Portsmouth link has initially been ridiculed, and then turned out to be a lot nearer the mark than for comfort.

Possibly a telling comment

It seems the Martin Allen story came from the current caretaker, Gary Waddock, expressing his admiration for Allen and saying he'd be a good choice, so alas, perhaps not the strongest recommendation as the Pompey fans seem not to rate Waddock and want rid- Waddock seemed to be saying "Give my mate the job" so as his own job would be safe.

I notice Warnock's odds came in and then out again- Redknapp is surely a decent outside bet if Cook goes elsewhere (Derby?) or (fingers and balls crossed) stays. Redknapp sure ain't leaving his pad in Sandbanks, and he came back to Pompey once already- if they draw a blank on Cook, stranger things have happened than Arry turning up there again, probably 'upstairs', though it's more likely he'll get a role with Bournemouth now, using his Premier League contacts to sign up a few expensive mercenaries.
These go to eleven.

How would a Northern based manager fayre moving to the South Coast recruiting players. I know the journeymen pros are prepared to move but it will surely take time for such as PC to get the feel of the local non league scene.

As Pompey's needs are great with the number of outgoings it would mean PC is blind in a lot of respects to southern based players.

God I hate this league.

Good point. Cook's knowledge of players in the north-west is apparently phenomenal and has led to us uncovering a few that others hadn't fully appreciated the potential in (Banks, Raglan, even Morsy and Ryan). That's why I've been fearful when jobs at the likes of Wigan have come up, and Burnley may well do if Dyche moves onwards and upwards. Having said that, the bookies must know something for the odds on Cook to be as short as they are. Perhaps they drink in The Barrel.
These go to eleven.

I'm not really a betting person but wont the fact that he's the only one they've publicly gone after be a major factor in them shortening the odds to protect themselves as much as them knowing stuff that we dont that its a done deal?

Yes, that must be a big factor too- I see Cook just lengthened to 1/2 with BetVictor, with Allen now second-favourite at 4-1. I also notice that Darren Ferguson confirmed he was approached by either Notts Co or Pompey, but he's 33-1 for the Portsmouth job at the moment.
These go to eleven.

Dont read anything into the odds its a false market the maximum bet you can have is £25 ...the moment somebody asks for 100 quid on they will br knocked back and the odds slashed...bet victor j believe are the only firm betting on it.

Probably running scared now after the blokes from the Barrel had it all off at 33's.

I must admit I got on Martin Allen last night at 7s. He a manager known for leaving teams - especially Barnet.
Here we go again!
