Don’t want to scapegoat anyone but he does seem to stand out like a sore thumb in this England team. Hoping Rice can step up over time and make one of the CM positions his own. Plus Foden coming through over the next few years.

He's not athletic or dynamic enough in the crucial first second and half when the ball comes to you in the middle of the pitch.

It was noticeable that with Barkley there was as instant change and that allowed England's to find more space when he got on the ball.

Gareth Southgate has a group of young men possessing summat few Englishmen possess - World Cup winners medals.

And to his enormous credit he's had the courage to offer them opportunities some Premier League managers haven't.

Infact I'd be delighted to see those suffering such glass ceilings head abroad - it'll develop them as both players and individuals.

He's also had the intelligence to rebuild bridges with the public. The way he encouraged his lads to interact with the press created a positive atmosphere, what's more there's always an honest humility to their interviews.

It doesn't go unnoticed that they represent the true multi-racial character of modern Britain, either.

I was initially sceptical of Southgate based upon decades of a conservative FA taking the safe rather than the progressive option.

However I'm delighted to admit being wrong as the conveyor belt system he helped introduce - allowing talent to flourish amidst a settled environment at junior levels - appears to be bearing fruit.

Please give me a list of 5 players, who have done better in March for both Club and Country?

Sterling = 7 goals and an handful of assists.

He’s not only leading his country to glory, he’s leading Manchester City to the League title, Fa Cup and Champions league glory. Also, not forgetting he’s already lifted a trophy already this year.

So. Are you saying that Sterling is leading these fellas, to name only a few Kompany, De Bruyne, Aguero and Silva ??

Definitely Kompany, he’s not far off being finished.

100 percent - In March, without any doubt.

Are you really suggesting Kompany and these others have had a better March than Sterling?

On current form (ie March), no one beats Sterling.

England not great tonight but still gubbed a hard working side. Their record defeat. Exciting times.

Made up Sterling scored and gave their crowd a bit of stick. Audible monkey chants during the game come as no surprise.

Henderson's turning into a key player. Him pinching it off the oppo then delivering a pinpoint pass for our third is what he's all about. Summat similar for the fifth, too. Overall sloppy at times and got a bit daft late on, but these are the kinda games that've sometimes embarrassed us in the past.

Looking forward to this summer's semi (steady missus...).

Tell you what, there is something special about this England side I think. Missing a whole host of quality youngsters last night and on Friday and still cruised to 2 big wins.

Off the field I am even prouder. Listening to Southgate, Sterling and Hudson Odoi post game yesterday having been through the racist abuse they had was a great listen. Fair play to each and everyone one of them, spoke so well, and so clear they are a ridiculously tight unit. I’ve never believed an England national team can go and win something, but that World Cup and the start of this qualification phase makes me start to wonder...maybe, just maybe.

Followed the team round Europe and Russia in recent years but always just for fun rather than expectation. I’ll be in Bulgaria and Kosovo later this year where I expect we will have already qualified for the Euros and no reason we can’t go into that tournament with a real chance. Only France and Belgium better European sides as things stand, with England’s youngsters arguably potentially better. From the 17s to 21s we have some real talent

I know you are on a wind up but there is no better player in an england shirt currently. Listen to his interview post game too, changed as a player off the pitch too, which I didn’t think he had in him. Quickly becoming a real role model with how he conducts himself on and off the pitch

England teams of old would have panicked last night when they went 1-0 down and would probably have got increasingly flustered as they tried to break down the home team as they put 11 behind the ball to defend the lead. That team last night just knew they had the quality and the goals would come if they stuck to their task as planned. As well as being very good technically the side seems much better mentally to handle the challenge. There are much stiffer challenges ahead but its nice that we can look forward to them positively.
