It's highly comical, how he flounces off promising never to return, then comes back again for another encore.

Luke in order to avoid being placed on mod preview again, without notice, please take the advice not to contribute at all to clear CFC related threads as it usually leads to discord, complaints and the thread becoming about you. There isn't such a problem with you contributing to general football threads and those about your club (albeit surely your needs are better satisfied on stagsnet) so I suggest you stick to advice I thought you had previously accepted

So, I wonder if CFC's best signing in recent years, despite all the players, is actually Paul Cook himself? Is he actually more important in the long run than all the players who come and go?

The problem is if he starts believing he's more important, for me he's currently managing the "new" club "on par" we should be in league one and the JPT final is something we should expect to compete in (shown by the fact the previous manager did both) doing both in the same season and in his first full season is impressive, but for me I'll consider him as being our best signing in years when he has us pushing for the play off's in league one

Hope that happens. It seems like we're going about our business differently now, in a way I don't remember before.

I agree we appear more professional with Cook and Turner covering more bases than other regimes, in a year's time we'll be in a better position to assess

Well now 'Moondog' has evicted the parasitical troll (from this thread, at least) we can take part in a genuine discussion.

One thing we've seemed to perennially lack is physicality. Not the Wimbledon/Cambridge-under-Beck stuff still being perpetrated by some outfits, but enough (for want of a better word) 'muscle' to compete when necessary. Sure our technically adept but relatively small squad overcame such issues four years ago, however I often watched them brushed aside by sides who were simply efficient in League One. This season too we've sometimes struggled against teams reverting to Shrove-Tuesday-in-Ashbourne style tactics, and whilst I reckon we've a better balanced squad now adding more presence has to be part of Cook's plans.

I suppose Morsy brings a little of the muscle (his ball-winning and retention is excellent), but isn't always the strongest for winning headers as he's not physically as tall.
Despite his critics, I thought Hird did a great job of nullifying Peterborough at Wembley in the holding role, stopping them get a foothold and overunning us. This is why I'm increasingly wondering whether Hird might be in PC's thinking after all. Of course, if he can get a holding midfielder with more height, pace and good ball retention, then this would be fantastic.
Prior to Wembley, I was worried about Assombalonga and what I perceived as our weakness, lack of pace at the back. However, Evatt coped superbly and I've changed my mind and now think our actual weakness is in the full back positions, and thought Peterborough targetted us there and worked on this quite well. I htought Wembley was a good test and hope PC has learned that we need to cut out the mistakes (2 goals from corners is poor) and take the chances when they come.
As I said on another thread, if we could find 2 Rob Edwards-quality full backs, I would be very happy indeed.

It's certainly a 'first thought' in my mind whenever we field a team without Armand or Rico. The fact is though that we rarely concede from headers in open play (can't remember the last one). My view is that if we replace, say, Ryan with somebody like Linganzi, then overall our play would suffer. It looks like Linganzi has only played 17 times for Gillingham. That said, I think it's obvious that any replacement(s) for Rico will have to be bigger and faster.

We also need a new striker that can defend corners as well as Ricco does. He heads as many away as the centre backs. Jack was also good at corners on the front post, headed loads away
