While I rate him as a CB I have been bemoaning his presence in midfield, on the forum. However, I have to say that today he was superb. He was in the thick of things throughout and showed composure on the ball. In fact, I doubt Ryan would have equalled his contribution. Well played Sam! Smith generally did very well and Morsy was fantastic again. Gardner added some impetus to the attack, Darikwa was steady and Cooper and Evatt were solid, giving Harewood little to work with. Doyle was excellent and, while I would have liked a bit more threat from Richards, he played his part. A decent performance by all, including the subs and a well-deserved 3 points. And for those who love to criticise our fans, the away support was very good and I barely heard a peep out of the Hartlepool faithful.

I agree with all of that. Hird kept everything very simple today. Took little risks and covered Morsy when he went on a forward run - I lost count of the amount of times he ran through the centre full of pace, power and skill. Definitely the in form player at the moment

last season Hird was a massive disappointment. This season, he has been very good when called upon, and looked every inch the player JS thought he had signed. A completely different player. What a difference 12 months and a bit of stability makes.

Anyone who cant see the player he is this season compared to last season must be either blind or insane.

Would I offer him a new deal? Yes I would. I would also play him at CB in front of Cooper.

PC I doubt will offer him anything, and maybe feels his wages could be better used elsewhere, but he has be excellent in 90% of the games he has played

..............

I dont feel there is any justification for Cooper to be dropped. As for Hird, theres a case for him to be offered a year - his wages wont be such an issue as I imagine the terms would be lower

I don't think he will be offered a new deal but I do think he deserves one. Even if a squad player he'd be an excellent one for league one and more than a good enough back up for Jimmy/Sammy as well as Coops and Evo.

With Togwell 100% going mind he may be offered a reduced terms contract

I cant imagine league one being a problem for him in the slightest. Terrific stuff, so comfortable on the ball and now he is marauding forward with ease

Hird is proven at a higher level, and was outstanding until dropped for evatts return. IMO was in better form than Cooper.

If we signed him for another season (which I don't think we will do) he would be in direct completion with Cooper for a place in the starting 11

Cook ought to give him licence to push forward more

If the terms were right he would be good cover. I look forward to seeing if he can replicate today's form v Exeter.

IF RUMOURS ARE TRUE re Hird's wages, I wouldn't offer him a new deal.

IF RUMOURS ARE TRUE and we could keep him for another season providing we can partially cut the wage budget through him, I would be more than open to it

He is a versatile player - Can adequately cover right back, centre half and central midfield. Useful player to have in the squad

Theres no way surely that the rumoured existing deal would be renewed

We were loud today, but it's no more than they deserve. And we ought to be giving them more backing at home.

Why would he stay, knowing he's gonna be cover?

Might depend on whether anyone fancies a bid for Morsy.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

Agree its just harder to generate an atmosphere at home, I suspect the atmosphere on Friday will be a good one or atleast it should be. The realization we are nearly over the line is starting to hit home, score early the Proact will be bouncing.

Pleased for Sam, a player that's just got on with it, without any hassle.
