The Manager cocked-up with Johnson and knows so.

It was a simple mistake not making more effort to sign him, nothing more or less.

commentary just mentioned that Grayson had been trying to sign him for some time. So unless there was a time when the full transfer window was open whilst he was on loan to us, it was never on was it?. Where was the mistake?.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Someone on the other football forum says we were in for him but couldn't in any way compete on wages.

Daniel Johnson went for 50k

Any ambition at CFC would of seen us snap him up when we had chance!!

What a snip at that price, ah well another one slips through the net

but what are Preston paying him? It's not just the fee it's what you're lumbered with paying for 2 or 3 years.

Found it ... a Notts County fan posted this:

Quote

3) I know for a fact you out-bidded at least 3 clubs for him who had also agreed to pay the fee (Oldham and Chesterfield being two and us being a third) - and we couldn't get anywhere near competing on wages.

He quite simply went to the biggest club paying the best wages, that's the risk you run with loanees who perform well! Nothing to do with lack of ambition on CFCs part at all.

We are never going to be in a position to compete with Preston, some people live in the clouds

It's hardly being lumbered is it,if you have a player whose stock increases due to good performances it's an investment,a blind man on a galloping horse could see Johnson was class he had ability in spadefulls,I reckon it's more of a gamble signing 27 year old players with only non league form in the book who have only ever played for southern clubs like Harrison.

fair enough we should have gone all out and paid £5 or 6 k a week then, doesn't matter how much we spend does it?

I'm not saying that's what he's on, but apparently it doesn't matter what he costs we should have paid whatever it was.

And then in order to renew anyone else's contract we've got to pay them £5k a week because we've set that standard. Sadly I don't think its worth overspending and rocking the boat over.

I wouldn't say galloping was one of his strengths and I don't think we could have played both Roberts and him in the same team long term.

Why push the boat out for a player who in all fairness would've probably found himself on the bench when Roberts is fit.
Honestly, who would've played him ahead of Roberts? I definately wouldn't, it's pretty clear that PC wouldn't have either.
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

Funny because i see johnson as the perfect foil for roberts, we have to have creative players who can score in the midfield 3 roberts struggles to find space as opposition know he has ability johnson would free up that space for him.

And you're quite right. We'll need to sign somebody like Johnson in the close season, because the creative stuff can't all be left to Roberts.
All due respect to O'Shea and Banks, but if we're to progress we need a bit more.

Good player Johnson, but not as good as Clucas who is more than capable of scoring more goals and assists and is better defensively.

Johnson was a passenger when not in possession, at least Roberts make himself a nuisance even if he isn't going to tackle. Both in the same team for me whilst we'd look good on the ball, I think we'd have been over run. We need to put some more flair in there but they will need to be an all round player, a rare commodity and not cheap

What a signing he's turned out to be, possibly PC's best to date.

The highlight of the season.....So far!
