Not even that, usually. I think the Belper friendlies are a contractual obligation following the Aaron Chapman transfer- when Cook was boss he would send trialists and reserves plus a few young'uns, led by coaching staff you would recognise. Very early in Saunders' reign there was an early sign of how thoroughly he intended to do his job when a minibus full of very young lads in Town kit turned up to be thrashed by a middling Evostik side. That tradition has been kept up each summer, since.

Agreed, There's not much to look forward to apart from Tommy's testimonial, which should be a cracking night. We'll see enough of non-league teams when the season starts, what a bummer. However, in mad dog I trust, he'll get us back up first time.

I understand we've chosen to go to Buxton instead of Matlock this year, Whilst disappointing there is a good footballing reason for it as it will be Buxton's first game on their new 4G pitch the likes of which we will have to face this season. It will also please Tomlinson's who sponsor both clubs shirts.
Still time I would have thought and play both as we usually do, might be a matter of alerting the new management team on Tuesday as to how popular the fixture is.

Surely Matlock have made an official approach about the fixture ? Do we not have a commitment to the Banner Jones Trophy 😂

Didn't we do both last year on consecutive evenings, Matlock drew an attendance > 1200, Buxton drew an attendance of < 400. That really shows the respective popularities of the fixtures.
On a side issue is Tommy Lee's testimonial game to be a serious warm up game?

There's nothing so boring as Cartman telling us how bored he is of the Matlock fixture

I would assume so, only home fixture and a week and a half before the season starts.

My real concern is for CPS.
After all, we have had our share of fitness gurus in recent times and ended up with more than our share of injuries.
MA seems to be of the old school, doesn't believe in it, and expects to complete the season with a much reduced squad and, hence, injuries.
Will be interesting.

No disrespect to our opponents but we are now a non league side also, and I still feel the pain.Looking at the grounds we have to visit on BT sports, and some of the grounds are embarrassing.
