I'm obviously disappointed Pompey lost out, as our fans have achieved miracles over the last few years and we now have the biggest Community Club in the UK. Having said that, I think The City Ground/Trent Bridge/Meadow Lane area is one of the best locations in the country to watch sport. PS I'm delighted that Manchester with its two massive foreign-owned clubs, supported by armchair fans, also missed out.

In my day the word was we had the largest Sunday league in the Country, 13 (maybe even 14) divisions at one point

Depends what the criteria is. But for starters Derby is much more of a football town as Brian Clough himself said.

as well as having the first written code and the oldest club.

Perhaps the Notts County and Brian Clough things swung it.

A new hope.

not as miraculous as what happened in Chesterfield over a decade before mate.

We had other clubs wanting us expelled from the football league, the media being less than pro active - remember Harry Harris? (No of course you don't. Why would fans of a big club like Pompey on the way to the top flight care about a small lower league club?) and even a member of parliament called for us to be expelled.

You had a lot of goodwill from all areas of sport and government in your fight for survival, We had hostility.

Where was the Pompey trusts support in 2001/02? that's right, lapping it up on the way to the premier division with the snouts in the trough.

Don't come on here all holier than though about community clubs mate

A new hope.
