I thought it was just me. For someone to describe Notts County as the worst team they've seen at the Proact this season suggests they haven't been to many of our home games. I thought the visitors deserved to be in front at half time but that we won the second half. Unfortunately for us, Carroll was in great form or else we would have taken all three points. However, Tommy also had to make some good saves, so on balance a draw was probably about right. As for the officials, they weren't the worst we've seen. The ref was a little too lenient with them and took a while to find his cards, but he did eventually book 4 (at least I think it was 4) of them.

And for someone who feels the need to comment on a post you need to read what is said rather than making a case about something that is incorrect. I stated that Notts County were ONE of the worst teams I have seen up here this season. This very season where I have been to every single home match so I have indeed seen every team that have been up here.
And as for the officials I also stated that they were some of the shi**est I have seen up here for some time and not as you say "the worst we've seen". I don't expect people to always agree with my point of view but is it wrong to expect people to be able to read a post correctly?

We had far, far more clear cut chances than they did. A "fair" result would've been a win for us, not a draw. Not that I'm complaining about drawing, Carroll was incredible but we definitely created more chances.

Perhaps you should take your own advice 'mettalilad'? I didn't say that you had described the officials as 'the worst we've seen'. I said they 'weren't the worst we've seen'. And my opening comment was a way of saying that I don't agree with your assessment of Notts County - the implication being that you would only think this if you hadn't been to every home game. Perhaps I was too subtle for you?

Anyway, my basic point was that I don't agree that NC are the worst side to visit the Proact this season, nor do I agree that the officials for that game were outstandingly bad. They were poor, but not significantly worse than the usual standard we have to endure.

As you say, it's all down to opinion, so maybe we should just agree to disagree on this one and move on?

Well then the usual standard must be horrific as they had a player who on one occasion threw a couple of punches, in another pushed our player to the floor and in a third flew into bad tackle which finally got him booked.

Maybe I've been away for a few weeks? Or perhaps I don't have time to come on here every day? Anyway, we don't have to fall out about a difference of opinion, do we? You have yours and I have mine. It would be very boring if we all agreed with each other about everything - there'd be no point having this site!

Correct. But this sort of stuff happens in a lot of games, precisely because the players usually get away with it. Our own players aren't saints - how many times have defenders pulled back / pushed / tripped / fouled opponents in our box and got away with it? Cheating is an integral part of the modern game because there's so much money at stake. I'm not happy about it, just trying to be realistic. Football could learn from rugby, where there's a lot more respect for the officials because they still retain a large amount of control over the game. Of course rugby players cheat, but the punishment is more immediate and severe when they get caught and the refs don't tolerate being abused, surrounded and pushed about like their football counterparts. In short, they still command and demand some respect from the players - the whole ethos of the game is different as a result.

They punch the opposition when they've already knocked them out instead ;)

I agree 100%. The problem is, if football follows our egg-shaped cousins, the FA/UEFA/FIFA are admitting there is a problem to be dealt with. Think back to Rivaldo in a Brazil shirt (against Turkey 2002 world cup?), when he looked like a sniper had clipped him from the floodlights. No, we don't have players diving in football, we have simulation...

Imagine if Rugby did follow Rugby's example...talk back to the referee? Team marched back 10 yards closer to their own goal (which they piloted in lower league football...and it worked...so they scrapped it!) - they'd soon shut up. Run 60 yards to yell like a tool (Gary Neville made a career of it), in the book; yellow card, no hesitation; now go back where you came from. Worse case scenario. Premiership rugby final 2 seasons ago. Northampton Saints captain Dylan Hartley is red carded for calling the referee "an effing cheat". And then he gets a ban through the summer and misses the British Lions tour.

Red cards in rugby usually involve a citing officer and a ban of more than 3 games. The thing is, with football squads so big now and internationals warming the bench, losses like that can be easily absorbed. When the powers that be decide to deduct points for offences, and team miss out on titles/european places/play-offs/move into the relegaton zone, they'll get their house in order.

Have a look at this: This Is Not Soccer

And: Same ref, different game

Now somebody tell me why we can't have this in our game?
