I suppose it must be better than last time but the players always found it difficult to play on an a very big advantage to the home teams

I remember going to Preston and I took my little cousin to his first match, we lost 6-0 and was 3-0 down in first 20 minutes I think, it must have put him off as he has never been since

I thought it was 5 - 1 with Andy Taylor scoring. But I've probably got it mixed up with another game.We were allowed on the pitch at the end and it was like very sharp sand paper, it was horrible.

Was it Wales who played on the latest "state of the art" 3G pitch the other week? Because it was absolutely awful!

I think that was on the latest 4G pitch with the rubber pellets which came to the surface with every movement of the players.

Agreed it did not look very good

what's the betting there's a case to suggest that players are more susceptible to hamstring problems playing on 3G as apposed to 4G
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

He hit it very poorly and it just trickled in. No way would it have crossed the line if we'd been playing on grass

And what a crazy game that was...we were absolutely bloody murdered with Jim Brown having a blinder... scored with our one and only voyage into the opposition penalty area. Then we won at home and sat proudly at the top.

Next match was the trip to the Priestfield.... you know the rest!

Some of the rubber based astro pitches aren't too bad. Significantly better than the sand based ones which thankfully seem to be fading away.

However they are still very heavy and it takes a lot out of your legs running on one of these for 90 mins compared to grass

The water based astro pitches are supposedly really good though.

 The pitch which hosted the Andorra v Wales Euro qualifier didn't exactly get great reviews.

Not sure what happened with the one in Andorra but the technology with these seems to have improved greatly in recent years. The one up at Brookfield is meant to be very good and its not like the old very bouncy green carpets that they had at Preston and alike. The later 4G pitches are basically blades of grass almost with the rubber pellets you see to replace the soil that allows boots to get some grip on the surface. Quite a few places around the world now using them so they cant be that bad and i can see some lower league clubs going for them on the basis of cost alone. WHilst they wont be cheap first up the maintenance of them compared to grass pitches will be big savings.
