Like everything else, people don’t use places and buy on line etc and then moan when it’s gone.

Nail on head.

I make a point of shopping in Town whenever possible (and I'll argue the toss with anyone who says supermarket snap comes anywhere near veg off the market of meat from the market hall!).

Use it or lose it.

The Chesterfield Hotel is being demolished and the whole area regenerated, along with the outside of the railway station, the plans for it all look very impressive, trouble is they haven't planned the access very well for vehicles taxi's, people dropping or picking up, traffic will still mostly have to travel thru the town centre, as there is no access from the bypass, (built to ease traffic thru town centre) onto Brimington Rd.
Nothing like a bit of forward planning?

Why was that- what was wrong with the one near the Town Hall?
Always thought it looked good.
Has it been empty for 10 years?!

Where is the new one?

If it's done properly they could be very upmarket modern apartments

From memory they wanted more courtrooms and the new one had twice as many. New one is close to the railway station

This definitely applies to public libraries. They are a huge part of our culture, and a thing the UK should be proud of. Yet they are steadily being cut back :( .

Everyone thinks they are a great idea, but most hardly ever use them.

Its very sad
Everyone thinks forgiveness is a lovely idea until they have something to forgive

This video shows that whole area as a pedestrianised with the Spire Insurance building slap bang in the middle:

Its hard to tell (about 2 mins in) where the access road begins but it seems to come from the direction of Hornsbridge.

Looks to me as if they're doing away with the slip road to the bypass and replacing it with the access route to the station. Think (and correct me if I'm wrong) that it's similar to the route pre bypass days

Edit: thinking about it, they're probably gonna put the slip road Futher down. Can't see traffic being diverted through town/spital.

All these plans have been put in place to work round the HS2 plans that might or might not take place .

Looking at that, it looks to me as if the architects/council have mixed us up with somewhere like Leeds and have assumed we have the occupants spare for all those business and residential properties. If we do find the population, we ought to be in the Premier League never mind National League North.

It may go as far as Birmingham, and then be put on the back burner while stuff like northern rail is upgraded.
A new hope.
