Indeed. Berry Hill is the equivalent of Walton. Ravenshead is more Holymoorside.... Pleasley is Bolsover. Pleasley Hill is Carr Vale.

I'd say Bolsover is Bolsover, it's 6 miles from town, 8 miles from Mansfield.

An interesting one. I've never in my life when asked where I lived / was from, said "Bolsover" when outside of the locality of the area. Always near Chesterfield, sometimes when in foreign climes or deepest London, near Sheffield...

My ex who came from Pleasley, and her family, who lived in Shirebrook, would say near Mansfield....

Funny old world

At least boza market place is relatively pleasing on the eye. More so than pleasley or mansfailed town centre.
A new hope.

I went to meet with a customer who lived on one street in Mansfield, that without an ounce of exaggeration, was one of the most pleasant I've ever seen. That was at Berry Hill.

'Near Sheffield'? I'd be appalled at someone saying that. If you feel you must dumb it down, surely you'd stick to 'Derbyshire'.

Funnily enough I say the same - near Sheffield. Say Derbyshire and you often get is that near Nottingham/Leicester even Birmingham? Then I’d say not really no. What’s the nearest city then? Sheffield.
A new hope.

Some nice bits in Berry Hill, I hear they say they live near Ravenshead!

I wouldn't ever in a million years associate myself with South Yorkshire. I feel dirty even thinking about it.

Often when explaining where I'm from the reply I normally get back is one of two reactions:

1. Ooooh the one with the Crooked Church
or
2. Where's that??

I always say plumb dead centre of England, which baring a few miles, gives people a good idea.

Isnt that a place in Warwickshire called Meriden or something? It has a cross to mark it....

If you meant the UK, that would be in Northumberland!

Ah, its all about your background.... despite being born in Derbyshire (Holloway, near Crich) my dad was brought up from 6months to 15 years in Cudworth, near Barnsley. So I dont mind south yorkshire. Did my training in Sheffield too. Went to Uni in Notts first time, south yorkshire second time.....

When you are an exile down south almost anything north of Watford gap is acceptable....

Sadly i have in the past had to say we're near Sheffield...unfortunately some only seem to be able to cope with big cities to refer to .

We were on holiday once and when we said we were from Chesterfield a bloke replied "oh, the place with the bent steeple!". I quickly corrected him to "crooked spire".

In Siberia I used to say I was from Chesterfield and that it was about 200km from London, which often led people to think it was practically in London, such are the distances between cities over there. Many football enthusiasts had actually heard of Chesterfield FC via computer games, and I doubt they'd have heard of Chesterfield at all otherwise (popular brand of fags apart).
These go to eleven.

Once you get away from the large properties at the front at Ravensgead I’d say Berry Hill is much more desirable and higher house prices etc

There are a lot of educationally challenged people around.

Anyone incapable of processing such basic information isn't worthy of my time generally. I stuck to 'Chesterfield' whilst on my world travels quite successfully!

I think most round here associate with Chesterfield. Shop there, read news from there etc.

Also supporting the better team obviously.

Without a shadow of a doubt.
