Hi Everyone,
Before you all rush towards any conspiracy theories :D this is the cause of our mini blackout:

Our hosts had an issue with a power supply last night. That took the site (and lots of other sites) down for about an hour . All of this while I was blissfully unaware because I was losing at 5-a-Side in the northampton rain.
When they switched the power on, we were looking like we were back to normal. Then the database that holds all of the forum information stopped working.
Normally, this happens because Our hosts are trying to restore from a back up and it normally fixes itself after a few hours.
That didn't happen.
I had a check this morning, the database was back but looked like it had gone several rounds with Mr Eubanks Jr. Using the highly technical solution of clicking the button marked repair. we are back.
I need to do some more tidying up but that will have to wait until tonight after work. So, please be patient with the board for a little while!

Apologies and thanks for your patience!

Denny

Yeah, it was asked by another guy who has a site on a neighbouring server, but not answered!
It's hosted in one of those massive server farms, so you would expect it would have all the bells n whistles. certainly our offices here have all that, and we don't have 1% of the processing power of those sites.

Only things i can think is :
A) it took them longer to replace the power bar than the UPS had juice.
or
B) it's been 15 years since i built servers but i tended to find UPSs only worked half the time. which is exactly what they are designed not to do!

We doubled the physical size of the Server Room at Rolls Royce a few years ago and when we had to power the original Servers down we had an eight hour slot to re power all the existing and new servers back up. If we failed they would have had to start landing Aeroplane's and bringing Submarines up to the surface as the Servers were monitoring all the Rolls Royce engines in use throughout the world, no pressure at all

Lol. SpireiteToo, I was Sick of shouting "get goal side"!!!
Although I had to explain to my Lithuanian colleague / team mate what that meant!
The only time we took the lead was when it was really lashing it down and me and the deedah on the team were a little more used to the conditions!

Btw. I'll move this thread to the message board issues section at the end of the day.
