"Sky is Blue" stands independent of the Chesterfield Football Club although it is populated and maintained by long-standing supporters who have contributed to the club's wellbeing over many years.  Any views expressed on this website are those of the contributor only, and are no way representative of the views of the Chesterfield FC, its directors, staff, players or supporters.

Welcome to "Sky is Blue," a resource for anyone interested in the history of the Chesterfield Football Club.

This website began on another host in 2012 and was transferred during July 2023 to Google on a Bosman, after the original host was closed down. The new platform may lack a little in sophistication, but the information is all here, and that's the whole point of it.

The links on the side bar will take you to our site's various sections. To begin with, however, The Basics is a good starting-point for a general grounding in the club’s past.

If you operate a history-based football site let me know and I'll add it to our Links.

You are most welcome to contact us with any query you may have. We especially welcome enquiries from other historians and the families of former players, whether they played five hundred first-team games or forty-five minutes in a pre-season friendly! Can you see something we haven’t covered? Let us know, and we’ll have a go at it.

The name? Fans used to sing "Sky is blue, clouds are white, God must be a Spireite!" and while I'm sure the chant is not exclusive to Chesterfield, it rhymes, so it'll do!

This site is an official partner for the Heritage project of the Chesterfield FC Community Trust.  More information about the Trust can be found by clicking on the logo.

The Chesterfield FC Former Players Association was launched in 2018 to offer fellowship and support to the club's former players and officials. It is the group for all those who have represented the Club in first-team matches including those who managed them. Associate membership is available to anyone who has been contracted to the Club or has held a first team coaching position.  Membership is free.  It is a developing group where any of the members are encouraged to contribute to the aims of the group.  You can contact the Association through the Trust. Programme collectors can use the site to check on the existence of programmes for specific Chesterfield games. Each seasonal line-up includes a column that indicates whether or not a programme was printed, or is known to exist. Ken Foster explains it far more coherently here.

Credit where it's due: This site would be considerably poorer without the assistance of Paul Kellett and Ken Foster, whose input is gratefully received.
