I've been standing on a chair shouting for ages now that we need a tall striker.

If Dennis gets injured who takes his place ?

If we need height at the front to cope with tall defenders .

If we decide to change tactics and go 4 4 2.

Yes we've got Ugwu but it may take a long long time for him to get up to speed, as I don't see that happening anytime soon.

We haven't seen enough of Ugwu to pass judgement definitively. However, on the little I have seen of him, he reminded me a bit of Armand, in being big and strong, but totally unpredictable. When he wins the ball in the air, he's got no idea where it's going, and neither has anybody else. If he listens to Jack, and works with effort and concentration, he could be a decent player.

Woking put together all Ugwus goals 21 as I remember for last season on You Tube

I know its a league below etc but it is well worth a look

There is a player there lets hope Jack finds it in the second half of the season

My point being, like most fans I don't want to wait 6 or 8 months to see if he pans out ok.

He may be ok he may not and be totally unpredictable like Armand.

I want results now as this position is so important for results , it needs addressing urgently next month.

Agree with that, we really need to be getting wins fairly regularly from January in order to start moving further up the table. However, having seen Jack work miracles with players who looked absolutely useless a couple of months ago, I honestly believe he might conjure up some more magic and have Ugwu performing consistently well for us in the next month or two.

I think you have to consider the team performances when he was playing.

Yes I agree, give the guy a chance, but it won't happen in January given that he is still injured.

As I said we need a tall partner for Dennis NOW so that we can start moving up the table.

Even if Ugwu turns out to be good and I hope he is, we would still not be over endowed on the striker front.

This thread is out of date, surely.

JL & TW have already indicated there will be a number of incomings and, probably, a couple of departures.

We already know of one coming in - Talbot - who, if fit, covers both both full back and wing back positions.

A permanent goalkeeper is essential and, possibly, already lined up.

Whilst TW has suggested we are short of a centre back and wingers.

Do we really expect much more than the 4 or 5 above, already hinted at?

My impression of Drew's signing is that it is two fold. If fit, he will obviously be a positive addition to the starting XI, providing an option in several positions.

From what I've read and listened to, Drew's attitude is top notch. He is a fantastic trainer and an extremely positive influence in the dressing room. Maybe just the sort of experienced player you would want around any talented youngsters brought into the club.

I second this with bells on. If, as seems likely, we will see some young prospects coming in on loan, Drew is precisely the kind of player you want in the dressing room.

Haha! Aye. But not today. Fielding an illegible player would be bad hoodoo at the minute. Genuinely believe his presence will be being felt already, though. Just hope he doesn't knacker himself in training before he has a chance to pull on the shirt (he says, only half joking).

Why should he knacker himself? I know it's said tongue in cheek- but nobody asks the same question of Scott Wiseman and Chris O'Grady, yet both are older than Drew.

Well, you're right, it was a tongue in cheek comment but I suppose the reason there was any sincerity to it is his injury record. Age doesn't come into it really. Drew has had a lot of injuries and I don't think anyone would argue that point. Like everyone else I'm just hoping he doesn't pick anything up. In a way though, his undoubted commitment to the cause puts him at risk at times...can't remember many games in which he didn't bleed at some point. Arguments about his technical proficiency aside, his bravery is second to none.

So, after today, it might look like we only need a goalkeeper, a defence, a midfield and good cover for goal scoring duties.

Other than that we will be fine.

impossible now to look at one signing, we need a keeper maybe 2, 2 centre backs, left back cover, wingers and centre forward cover

We need one, possibly two defensive midfielders. We need a right sided midfielder/winger with pace and some presence, a left back to allow JBW to go forward, we need a keeper and a CB. We could use another forward because if Dennis is injured were screwed.

We didnthave a functioning midfield. We had s patched up and injured back 4.
A new hope.

We undoubtedly need a couple (at least) of signings. More important however, has to be keeping Dennis and Rowley.
If take no signings and keeping them above selling and about 5 signings.

Obviously, I’d prefer to keep them both AND make signings!

Let’s not make C**p / panic ones though.
This time last year anyone?

I’m 100% JL/TW/NE have had plenty of time to identify the correct players that suits the style of play the are aiming for.
They have done a remarkable job in the circumstances they walked into & have turned ‘so called’ crap players into crucial ones i.e. Kellett, McCourt etc
Don’t be surprised if 5-6 are already lined up for week 1 in January
Keeper, 2 x defenders, 2 x wingers..........
