My interpretation of Eyre's words is that Caldwell, despite his outward persona of independence and confidence, was actually just a Carson lapdog because he was so grateful to be given an opportunity. Not a recipe for success no matter who it was, and a lesson I'm sure he will not repeat.
Jack, on the other hand, is not a Carson choice and is built of sterner stuff.
As for pitch widening, I think it can only help JBW and Joe.
Interesting interpretation. Caldwell was a garbage manager and I said so before he was appointed. Being a garbage manager can still happen regardless of what club he is at, if his formations don’t suit his players, if his recruiting doesn’t suit how he wants to play, if he widens the pitch and has no wingers, if he plays central midfielders as wing backs and full backs in central midfield. All of that has nothing to do with his employer.
