"Fondly remembered by Palace fans of a certain age as being the man who scored the winning goal for Mansfield at Wrexham in May 1977.
Which meant Palace were promoted from division three and Mansfield were champs, poor old Wrexham finished fifth in the end - they'd have gone up at Palace's expense if they'd won.
But good old Ernie finished them off".
RIP Sir Ernie.

If he's a Crystal Palace fan, its a wonder he didn't mention 5 October 1974- a Crystal Palace riding high under Malcolm Allison, before a crowd of nearly 20,000, came up against Ernie at his best- Town coming out easy 4-1 winners courtesy of 2 goals from the big man, plus Kowalski and Darling. Heard from under the fedora in the dug out- for effs sake get the big number 8.

Ernie worked in the County Council’s Education Department prior to signing as a professional with the Spireites. I had the privilege in playing in an inter-departmental game against the Education Department in what was his last game before becoming a professional. 7-0 to them, Ernie scoring five. A great end to his amateur days and the beginning of a great career. Lovely man, so unassuming, so treasured. Will never be forgotten. RIP Ernie.

I remember that match very well one of those days when that team led by Ernie up front would have beat most teams in that league at the time

First home game next season there ought to something for the great man.
Maybe something different. No minutes silence or minutes applause but maybe a minute of “Ernie Ernie Ernie”
The minute applause - did that start with George best? Maybe Ernie can be the start of a new thing as well.

A minute of “Ernie Ernie Ernie” as replacement tor either silence or applause is an absolutely cracking idea.
My humble view, for what it’s worth, is that Ernie Moss shouldn’t be remember by us fans with silence but with joyous cheering like he caused us to do all those times in his time at the club.

Surely the whole point of the port Vale friendly is for it to be Ernie Moss day, he was well regarded by both clubs, I'm sure both clubs will honor the legend on that day.
