THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY OF THE MATLOCK FIXTURE.

Generally we look to have a better all round squad with similar depth, Having watched the 2 friendlies overall I'm very optimistic.

Up top we still don't have an equivalent Asanti threat, Payne has all the atributes of Asanti but Jesus is he worth putting our hopes on. Very aggressive, stupid fouls in front of the ref when we are in good positions and then argues the point unmercifully. Every time he went near the ball the ref invariably blew up against him.

Two direct free kicks resulting in goals against, the defence and Loach have to get things sorted. Friendlies I know but conceeding goals against lower league teams doesn't give one confidence. Wins are built on solid defence, we've a lot of work to do. Sorry to have to say this but with the midfield we now have Joe Rowley will feature few and far between.

I remember going to a pre-season friendly in 1991, we won 6-0 at Burton. Neil Grayson got a hat trick.

I learnt quite soon not to read too much into friendlies.

I will bet the actual attendance was a lot higher, don't think the people that were taking money from the cricket entrance were actually counting anyone in...

Thats pretty clear and still confirms that isn't the law in the norm at Tier 6/Step 2 of the non league pyramid and below though.

The Police need to take a look at themselves however if they've been letting fans break the law for 36 years and have only now suddenly decided to do something about it. How bizarre

Apparently this may have been a misunderstanding after Derbyshire Police pointed out to Matlock at Friday nights game with Mansfield, that when hosting a league club (which includes the National League) that they shouldn't really allow fans to watch the game whilst supping. Matlock took this as a warning when it appears if they'd had a word the Police would have continued not to enforce the law. Shame, was the perfect night to watch with a pint
Some of you really need to get over Smith. He wasn't even that good. Pryzbek was better.

Blaming loach for the free kick... it went over our wall and into the corner... sometimes you just have to say good goal. None of our keepers last season would have saved it. Give the man a chance.
Absolutely right. It should be remembered that he was furloughed by Barnet at Christmas and this will be the first proper training sessions he will have had, so some rustiness is to be expected.

It's an improvement on a year or two ago when you had to have three double whiskies with a pint to tolerate anything

What’s our kop hold 2k...I know Matlocks only 3 sided but you’d have struggled to get last nights crowd into it..easily 2-2.2k.

For many a season the declared attendance for this fixture has been baffling as post 76 implies. But whose bothered? let's enjoy the craic
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

There was a group of 5 of us and the turnstile didn't click once. So make your own mind up about the attendance. The poor guy was trying to scribble down with pen and paper with the old 5 bar gate process. I would say more like 2K easy. Not disssing Matlock at all. Always a very enjoyable friendly night, probably the most scenic football ground in the country especially with the moon rising over Riber Castle on the way out. Well done guys.. but as i say definitely 2K +

Walked into ground and Tyson smashes ball into his face. He came over and was very apologetic though, nice of him.

Little update on this. He's just messaged me telling me that he's sent the replica shirt to my house and he's arranging tickets for me and my son for a home game. Top lad is Nathan.
