Take your pick. Probably expect us:
- Not to have games cancelled last minute
- Not to be playing u23 sides who bear no resemblance to the type of side we will come up against
- Not to be hastily rearranging games/moving venues for reason nobody seems to have a clue about - including those who had booked travel to said games
- Not to be playing games at home where we lose money - atleast one of the Vale/Bradford/Grimsby games should be BCD given the crowds.
- Not to be looking at gaps in the schedule where we are running around trying to get an opposition last minute - my Sunday league side is doing that
In previous years late June we've announced a schedule, everyone knows what's going off and we stick too it. There's even usually a game in there that on paper is an appealing looking one - Leeds, Sheff U, Derby, Wednesday, Forest etc like in previous years that might even draw a decent crowd and make us a bit of ££££. This year we've got teams announcing games that we haven't, a manager saying we've got 7/8 games lined up and only 4 being in the public domain.
It's been a bit all over the place from the outside looking in, an odd take is looking at it and think it is fairly normal.

Had a look at a couple of others - all much of muchness in fairness but at least they were constructed in a reasonably organised/non scatter gun approach like ours seem to have been.
Stockport - Ashton (A), Curzon Ashton (A), Brighton U23's BCD, Lincoln City (H), Guiesley (A), Burnley U23's (BCD), Fleetwood (H)
Wrexham - Spennymoor (A), Burnley U23's (A), Tamworth (A), Fleetwood (A) - no game on 14th interestingly
Notts County - Coalville (A), Telford (A), Boston United (A), Derby (H), York (H), Solihull (A)

Interesting to note that some other sides' games against u-23 teams are behind closed doors. This must be to get the u-23 sides used to playing in front of Football League Trophy crowds.

That looks even poorer than ours, absolutely shocking set of fixtures. They also have been announcing games late and at least we didn’t cancel an ill thought out training camp in the States and stuck to Loughborough
Stockport’s against Fleetwood? That’ll be an crap Fleetwood XI as they’ll have started their season by then
Wrexham no fixture, following a set of crap fixtures. If preseason counts for anything they could be seriously undercooked
County playing a fellow NL team final game, just like us.
At least we got two games in against reasonably strong L2 sides and will have a good test against a fellow NL club.
The reason for the poorly constructed preseason is starkly obvious, there’s nobody to play in August. I wouldn’t be surprised if we set up another BCD game

As long as the players are getting the required minutes in legs and conditioning/bonding etc in training then that is all just noise. Preseason is for the players to be ready for Aldershot.

In view of the short shrift our young media team receive from JR, I nominate you to ask the question of him, “what’s gone wrong”?
