Hi all,

I've got a new podcast out today with Sam Hird. He's very honest about captaincy when he signed, transfer listing, where he thought it all went wrong and disappointment about getting released.

Very good.
Biggest mistake sacking Danny Wilson, when he hadn’t been given the resources others had.. Surprised then when Gary Caldwell came in, he was given the backing Danny didn’t have.

Great watch Dave.

No surprise about the lack of grace from the club when Sam was let go. 🐍

I seem to remember Danny wanted to sign Lee Novak permanently along with a few other decent additions from other League 1 and 2 clubs which weren’t as bigger as us historically. Needless to say Fagin and his dastardly dumb assistant refused, appointed the gimp Caldwell and the rest is history.

I love your podcasts but that summary makes Sam’s career at Town seem disappointing whereas for the most part he was great and is very well-remembered. I look forward to listening.
These go to eleven.

You are right in that I probably didn't describe him very well there. We did talk mostly about those successful sides and his mental toughness in terms of how he became a solid fixture in the team for so long. The where isn't went wrong more an comment on at the club rather this his own personal journey. He's a great guy and might be back around the club more often in coming seasons with his new role at the PFA.

Just listened as it took a while to appear on Castro- excellent stuff as ever, but I wonder if you can explain the disclaimer at the start please? Why would CFC turn down a bid from Pompey because of the wage offered to the player? Surely that’s not the selling club’s concern? Sorry to be pedantic- I’m genuinely interested and love listening to these podcasts, so thanks for all your great efforts.

Hi. No worries. It was Sam that asked for that to be put in as said he didnt want it to look like it was Cook who blocked it as it was the club. He didn't want to leave but when Pompey came in to want him on loan he finally resigned himself to leaving and accepted the chance to go to Pompey. The club then aparantely blocked it due to the percentage of wages offered. That's how he described it so wanted to put that in there.

Got you- so, a loan deal rather than a permanent move. Makes sense. Ta
