It's a pretty saddening read. Everything was so much more upbeat back then. We're a complete joke now. I live a 5 minute walk from the ground and missed the two home games before Scunthorpe voluntarily. I went to Scunthorpe and watched us roll over and have our bellies tickled. No more, that's me I'm afraid.

On a positive note the programme finished runner up in the league programme awards so let's celebrate that

As I understand it......
The 10 acres were gifted to CFC by the land owner (Tesco I think) on the understanding that football must be played there. A change of use is possible in theory if Tesco accepted a competitive price for the acres.

Capitalism!! Who couldn't live without it!

I don't understand the surprise, club is built on foundations of sand.

We will end up folding with DA at the helm.

Anyway I love a relegation battle

I hear that someone was gifted a quite large number of shares

not hearsay, fact, see Moondog's post from August:

http://www.thecfss.c...1

See the full list of exactly who owns the full 5,000,000 shares in CFC 2001 Ltd filed with Companies House 17th Oct 2016.

https://beta.compani.../filing-history

Click on "Filing History" then view the PDF Document.

Someone on another thread suggested a direct link between AC and SR, which might explain the gift but I don't know if that's true.

I'm glad someone's dug this out.

Here endeth any more nonsense about Allen pulling the financial plug because of attendances that fell short of plucked-from-thin-air numbers.

DA wanted seven thousand, got something very near to it - not to mention a Wembley visit and summer gigs, yet CFC still declared a huge loss.

And it was at that point that budgets were frozen then cut.

Thursday 2nd February 2012....how things change, eh, Dave?

"I said to the AGM the other night, a lot of you question whether we're spending too much on catering and banqueting rather than on the football, but I can assure you, we're not. I don't have any problems in getting it right and spend a lot of time on that, but the club has a £6 million debt and it needs servicing. The Banqueting Suite services that debt."

"The base crowd is 5,000 plus - I want it to be 7,000 and we should be able to do that. The crowds have been great, it's a day out. Fans from other teams and Directors come and they're flabbergasted by the quality of the stadium and the food and bars. We're hosting the Weston Park Ball here this month, we've pulled that out of Sheffield."

You came here with a plan, but, looking back to last season, did you think in your wildest dreams that things would go that far that quickly?

"Yes! It was planned! I bought the Manager (John Sheridan) in , I know what he's capable of - and the team around him with Tommy (Wright) and Mark (Crossley) - never been any doubts in my mind. We'll be a Championship club in a few years, don't worry about that.

It's a huge community resource too of course?

It's a change of culture, the new club. Saltergate was the corner shop; the club now is the Superstore. Chris Turner is the CEO and running the business now."

What are the plans for the stadium next?

"We've got it right - the concourses, food, TV and drink - when you look at the clubs around us, we're not Sheffield Wednesday, United or Huddersfield, we're in a town the same size as Barnsley - about 80,000 - they struggle to get 10,000 sometimes.

"I think it wants taking up a few thousand by filling in each corner, taking us up to about a 14,000 capacity - that'll be Championship football level.

"In this division, you're always going to get 4 or 5 clubs that get crowds between 15 and 20,000, for instance, Charlton and Huddersfield, and so their wage budget is bigger, but that's not everything.

"I remember Reading got promoted to the Premier league some years ago on a budget of £4.5 million, which is very small. They went up because they identified good young players and had a good Manager in Steve Coppell. We shall identify good young players and we've got a great management team. We're up for 10 exciting years at Chesterfield Football Club.

"Mistakes have been made - and I have said that. I've said that no one goes on holiday this Summer until I know who's coming in.

"I Insisted that the Chairman give the Managemnet Team an extended contract because I didn't want to lose them. I had no intention of sacking John and never will do. You will get one or two calling for his head, people are entitled to their opinion, and they pay their money.

"We've brought some good kids in, I've made money available and I'm confident that it's onwards and upwards!"

And what's next for Chesterfield Football Club?

"I do want Chesterfield to get to the Championship and I want the business to develop and the fan base to be a regular 7,000. It's all good.

How hands on are you now in terms of the day to day running of the club?

"When I originally came here, it was just to invest the cash and look after the catering, but I became more involved. However, since we’ve appointed Chris (Turner) as CEO - it's not so important as he's running it now."

Someone should read that out at the AGM

Surely he has to realise when he said that the fans bought into it and now he's changed his mind (or it was never meant) it's the biggest turn off imaginable, fans have to have;

a) hope

b) the belief their ticket money is supporting the club.

Any benefit of the doubt has sadly now dissipated

I didn't renew my ST this season. Being honest, I was 50/50 the season before but I wanted to do my bit and support the club. Every home game I would buy food and drink from the concourse and like you rightly put, you want to feel your own contribution can help make a difference.

Now my decision not to renew wasn't down to rafflegate or Ched. My issue was the lazy and uninspiring decision to appoint Dean Saunders as manager. It was a dire appointment that has cost the club massively. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence could see it would end badly. Termination of contracts and expensive signings that have all flopped for one reason or another.

I find it laughable that Allen openly criticises the likes of me for non-attendance as the reason for the poor accounts yet his conveyor belt of f**k ups are glossed over.

I've been boycotting for the past year for exactly the same reasons, the last game I went to was Walsall in the FA Cup if I remember rightly.

And do you know what? The sad thing is I haven't missed it, yet I even went to Cheltenham away when my dad was having a double heart by-pass as he said 'just go, you do the things you like and enjoy your life, don't worry about me, I'll be fine'. Kind of sums it all up really.

The people who run football clubs largely have no clue about the people who come through the turnstiles and make sure there is a club in the first place. Always been like that.
Whenever someone says that the locals haven't supported the team in big enough numbers (and there have been a few on this board)I have a quick look on Sky Is Blue just to remind myself how many years its been since we averaged over 5000 for this many consecutive seasons. It's been a great effort by the fans.

That was also the last home game I went to. Haven't missed it one bit.
