definitely not just a cfc problem that one, certain big London clubs approach schools in their catchment area asking PE teachers for lads over 5'10 at 13+ my mate was released by town a long time ago now for this reason... he stands 6'2 now, plays in the non league.

another example was a Lithuanian kid in Worksop at year 8 who everyone was raving about, i watched him play and technically he was terrible, couldn't trap a dead rat.. but there was a great deal of interest in him, it was like a man playing against boys, trouble is when kids catch up physically they don't usually match up technically.

But are they actually better than the bigger players? Or same ability but the club picks bigger stronger players of comparable ability? Are they getting released based on positions? Is the club just selecting a good big 'un over a good little 'un?

I've a couple of examples I know at first hand similar to that. Genuinely very talented and good footballers for their age overlooked for kids the same age who were literally useless but who looked two years older.

Yep a few have this (Chelsea just got rid of theirs though following complaints from parents)!
Beats the old 'get the Mum in and we'll have a look at her' of years ago

I'd be interested to know which club!
Certain clubs do obviously prioritise their requirements but size has never been a priority.
Physical attributes for specific positions occasionally (GK, CB) but a club would not say send me big lads!

I don't know mate...all I know is that the reason given was not big enough for academy football of course if there is a bigger lad of equal technical ability I suppose he would get the nod.

You'd be surprised.....just a couple of years ago Sheff Wed put a minimum height requirement on a trial advertisement.
