He might be a bit of a div but whatever your politics, it's a pretty disturbing turn of events.

I heard he’s been sent down but that’s all I know.

What’s happened?

Stephen Lennon was convicted of Contempt of Court for his citizen reporting of a previous "grooming gangs" trial. Justice Norton said, "This is not about free speech, not about the freedom of the press, nor about legitimate journalism, and not about political correctness. It is about justice and ensuring that a trial can be carried out justly and fairly, it’s about being innocent until proven guilty. It is about preserving the integrity of the jury to continue without people being intimidated or being affected by irresponsible and inaccurate ‘reporting’, if that’s what it was."

This meant a suspended sentence for Lennon/Robinson.

This week he did the same at another similar trial and it looks like he was arrested for breach of the peace. As any offence will be linked to the ongoing trial it is unlikely that the outcome for Lennon will be clear before the verdicts in the substantive trial.

I was struggling to find any breach of the peace, or any other crime seeing the footage I did.

Is it right that reporting on the trial in question is banned?

No you can report on anything said in open court, few trials are held in camera. What you cannot do is speculate away from that which is the "official" account. Some media sources have been found to be in contempt in recent years including some major titles.

The main breaches tend to be reporting facts about the accused that are not part of the proceedings or suggesting guilt before a guilty plea or a verdict.

The issue is that should a trial be compromised then a potentially guilty person might go free because a the proceedings cannot be fair.

Some times those overly committed to causes (or to their own publicity) jeopardise trials by their actions.

I am not a fan of Tommy Robinson, but the British police have covered up the Islamic Rape Gangs for years, and now they arrested somebody who tried to report on this issue. You’ve got the left celebrating his arrest, yet completely ignoring the rape of girls as young as 11 years. His actions have could have compromised the trial, which is something he’s on bail for I believe. But in reality it is nothing more than a political agenda to stop him from doing what he’s doing. If the rumour of a 13 month sentence is true, he’ll need some serious protection on the inside or he’ll not see the end of 2018 out.

Re your first line, I doubt there was an actual cover up, there were however serious organisational failings by the Police, Social Cars, the CPS etc. I first experienced this problem over 20 years ago and the problem back then was it was suspected what was happening but there was zero compliance from the victims (I’m not talking in general here, just the ones I had dealings with) The gangs had done their jobs so well that the victims didn’t see themselves as victims and refused to cooperate meaning there was little to no evidence to do anything with. These girls were in care homes that were basically next to useless when it came to protecting them, fortunately they’re all closed down now. Fortunately as time as moved on into the digital age there are other avenues to move down to get the evidence where the victims can’t or won’t assist and methods of tackling the problem have vastly improved. Derbyshire had some real success with targeting these gangs, this one an example.

That was an excellent summation and rationally quelled my fears about the case.

What Yaxley-Lennon did was dangerous and went against what he allegedly stands for which partly is getting these monsters put away. Sometimes he does the impression of a clever man but his dimwittedness must've came to the fore to think what he was doing was in any way a good idea. How embarrassing.

He isn’t stupid so you’ve got to consider the possibility that he’s done it on purpose.

Personally,I like how he is drawing attention to something anyone else is hardly bothering to report on. Rarely see a report on local news; yet, this is constantly ongoing.

And, i'm a supposed lefty....

That said, what he is now doing is just plain stupid. However, as Westbars has said, he's far from stupid.
