In my ignorance, I used to call Allott lazy - he was so paranoid about giving the ball away that he used to give it to the man outside him far too early, when he could have run 10 yards with it to commit the fullback, before passing. As a result, the fullback never had to worry about a 2 v 1 overload.

To be fair to allott he was a converted midfielder but i agree with you he choose the safe option far too much im a big believer in keeping the ball but sometimes keeping it can be used as a way of filling up the lungs ready to go again on the attack , allott allowed the opposition time to get numbers back and deny space he nulified the tempo of the attack he was a good footballer but had a geoffrey boycott approach to football.

Jamie Jackson. Living the lifestyle, but not putting the effort in on the pitch?

Nozzer would be in there if JD was picking the team.

Agree about Creaney, Mark Randall. Armand on a fair few showings, but he did put the effort it by running away from the ball.

That keeper we had on loan when Tommy and his replacement were injured.

There is a difference between being crap and not putting the effort in though...

Which is why he should have played him instead of leaving him on the bench when the rest of the team weren't scoring enough goals. Wasn't it that he didn't play him cos he didn't like being defensive.

Can anyone remember when Gerry Creaney was stood on the the Halfway when we were defending a corner kick John Duncan was waving and shouting from the Dugout for Gerry to go back and defend but it all fell on deaf ears

By the time he came to us, I think Creaney knew his career had not so much jumped the shark as pole vaulted a few orcas and crashed into a blue whale.
These go to eleven.

Allott was one of the most under-rated players ive ever seen at town. Imo he was class, everything was nice and simple.

Allott would receive the ball and pass it off. And he did an okay job of it. His replacements showed you need more than that to play in midfield.

He certainly wasn't underrated by me - I had countless arguments with other posters who were always running him down. For me, he was the most vital cog in the team for years - he continually used his brilliant anticipation and positional sense to intercept passes and keep possession for us - great player.

He was our first choice midfielder at a time when we didn't have a good midfield. Allott doesn't come close to Jimmy Ryan in the attributes you are highlighting as his strengths. I was a fan of Allott when he was here, but that was me with my positive outlook accepting second best just because he was ours.

My comments were in the context of the general standard of the team at that time. Some of our current players, including Ryan, Morsy, Roberts , Darikwa etc , are at a higher level altogether than our team at that time, and the overall standard of football we have watched this season has been miles above that level.
