I'm lucky enough to be at Lords on Friday for the England New Zealand test match. A couple of us are on the full hospitality package in the Thomas Lord suite, champagne breakfast, three course lunch and tea with all drinks thrown in..anyone experienced this before, what to expect etc.?
Also were meeting the BBC radio commentary team and maybe the Sky bods as well..looking forward to Bumbles take on Paul Cook leaving us after i joked with him about taking him from Accy last time I met him.

I expect it will be magnificent. Even better if you're not paying.

I'm sure you will have a brilliant day and I sincerely hope you do.

However, it's the amount of hospitality and corporate events at cricket in this country that makes it so very hard for the honest, true cricket fan to get tickets, especially for the major events.

Just watch during the forthcoming Ashes series how many spectators are dressed to the nines, quaffing fancy bubbly and 'networking' rather than enjoying a contest between two great sporting rivals unfold before them.

No, I agree, but I've done my fair share of ordinary fan games, so looking forward to it!

I really hope you have an amazing day Mr M, however..........

I had plans to watch the Ashes this year but not going to bother. Simply cannot stand the current regime and Captain Cook is the worst of the lot.

Not half as good as he thinks he is and I do not trust him one jot.

Weather your a KP fan or not is irrelevant as what the ECB did to him was disgusting and I believe that Cook is at the middle of it.

The brand of Cricket the play is boring almost tedious and I hope Guptill (what a player) Mcullum and co smash us all over the park especially Broad who is stealing a position in the Test team. Nowhere near the bowler he was and is a walking wicket now.

Anyway I still hope you have a brilliant day mate 😊😊😊😊

That'll be Cook who has more test hundreds than any English cricketer and closing in on being our highest run scorer ever!

The main cause of our mess recently has been the XXX for tat rubbish between the ECB and KP and KP is as much to blame as anyone else and its just got boring now. If KP hadnt acted up initially and just got on with playing cricket instead of spitting the dummy it would all be much better. Lets not forget he was the one that kicked up a fuss to get Moores sacked first time. Personally i think Moores was the main architect of our poor stuff recently to concentrated on stats and stuff instead of letting players play. With the right appointment i think we can start getting back to something like as we do have some top quality players.

I've had to sell my ashes tickets for Edgbaston due to having to rearrange my holiday but looking at getting tickets for Trent Bridge instead.

Bowling wise will be interesting to see if Footitt has made any impression practicing with them this week.

I disagree with a lot of what KP did and how he went about it.

But ...........

They should never have opened the door for him

And

Although his actions were wrong he was right about Moores lol. Not good enough the first or the second time to Coach England

I'm not so sure they opened the door for him as Colin Graves opened his trap without checking with others about the situation. Not helped that the ECB have never really explained things which has sort of given KP a free reign to whine and get the public on board. Also not helped that we had a poor world cup that sees folk saying he should be in when in reality towards the end of his england days he wasnt really pulling up any trees himself.

Was certainly doing a bit this morning but a good fightback by Root and Stokes....shows what can happen when you look to score runs. When you just have the intent of trying to stay in you will get nowhere...that said to be fair to Cook he looked good and was unlucky to get out how he did whilst Bell got a snorter that is getting anyone out at any point in any game!

When batsmen dont look to score even just rotating the strike with singles it makes it easy for bowlers to bowl at them and captains to set fields to attack them. Hopefully Lyth will get a chance to give it a go as he is one that will score when the chance arises leaving Cook to get himself in.

What makes a Wood a better bet for England than Footitt?

Perhaps because Wood is not a Derbyshire player????

They must be thinking about him to have had him down there this week practicing with them. Yes it was partly to get the batsmen ready for facing some of the left armers that NZ have but they will be thinking that he could be worth a go at some point. Had we played a Windies, Bangladesh etc during this summer i suspect he would have got a go....just cant see them playing him in the Ashes and Wood seems to have the nod for these games.

Blimey its like having a representitive for the ECB on here with you.

You may have a great knowledge of the game but facts are facts....

They just do not like picking players from Derbyshire and its been happening for years and years

Oh dont get me wrong we are not a fashionable county and our players get overlooked although that said we've had no one worthy of a call up for years now. There is also the fact that we are Div 2 which will have an affect on players being recognised. Footitt had done nothing to warrant a look until the last couple of years but since his 100 wicket season he's been on the fast bowling thing to Sth Africa in the winter, been acknowledged as someone they are watching and now down there training with them. This Wood has also been around on those as one they pick up early like a Root and going back further the likes of Trescothick and Vaughan who didnt have great county records.

Whats strange is some of the pundits pushing Footitt as a one day bowler which is probably his weakest form of the game due to the fact he seems to get some tap at times. I think some of them just get excited about the fact he is a left armer.
