More common in Europe. 3-5-2 is a common formation in South America, the world of football isn't limited to Europe. As I've said before Juve win league titles using it, Chile use it frequently as do other South American national teams, it's not as defunct as you think and if we had more progressive, entertaining and daring coaches in the UK you'd see it a lot more. Credit to Swindon's manager for using it to absolutely hang out the back of us on Tuesday.
Agree with that, but NO system is infallible in itself - it's success depends on many factors, such as - the players you have available, how well they carry out instructions, the response of the opposing team etc. On Tuesday, for example, their system looked a liability for the first 20 minutes or so because we were breaking with great pace down both wings, and catching them short at the back; it was only inaccurate crosses and finishing that prevented us from taking an early lead. As the game went on, we took longer and longer to work the ball forward, giving their midfielders time to track back and cover, so their system became more effective, and I wouldn't have been surprised if they'd put 6 past us in the end.
