With Blowers announcing his retirement from cricket commentary, got me wondering about other voices of their sport.

Murray Walker
Peter O'Sullevan
Personally I was always a Barry Davies man over Motty.
Harry Carpenter David Coleman for athletics
Peter Alliss
Sid Waddell
Jack Karnehm & Ted Lowe
Madden & Summerall

Been a few.

Had the great pleasure of listening to Aggers and Blofeld live in there commentary box in the Lords media centre a couple of years ago when England played New Zealand, both extremely funny and very welcoming, oh and what a view!

If you had to pick one commentating legend from each sport and then from them choose the ultimate legend it, for me at least, could well have been Benauld.
As a side note I could never stand Brian Moore of ITV, who always seem to do sport and commentating extremely poorly.

Kent Walton - Saturday afternoon wrestling.

All those horned-rimmed specs wearing grannies getting their knickers in a twist over Mick McManus, Kendo Nagasaki and Jackie Pallo...

..priceless.

Great choice.

You missed Tally Ho Kaye, Tiger Boy Simba, Big Shirley and Giant Haystacks - who I seem to recall seeing at a televised event by the Old Manor School (Goldwell Rooms.....?)

Pat ....Was it not Honey Boy Simba ?

Les Kellett was my favourite

As for Commentators (Great thread btw )

I have to disagaree with Mr Merc ......I thought ITV had some brilliant Football commentators

Brian Moore was my favourite of theirs
Hugh Johns
Gerry Harrison
Gerald Sinstadt

Honourable mentions top The Beeb for Kenneth Wolstenholme and David Coleman ...( One Nil ! )

In Other sports

Richie Benaud Jim Laker for Cricket
Cliff Morgan for Rugby Union
Harry Carpenter for Boxing
Sid Waddell and Dave Lanning for Darts
Rauleigh Gilbert Graham Goode For Horse racing

And the Beeb used to have a bloke called Alan Weeks for the " smaller " sports always thought he was good too

David Vine was also on the BBC as a Jack of All Trades commentator on Sportsnight Grandstand etc

I also remember him hosting a live BBC2 Sunday Cricket match from the Queens Park
