Given this competition appears to becoming farcical at the moment these are my suggestions on how it could be improved.
The winners qualify for the Europa league (my only hope of seeing Chesterfield play in Europe)
Invite Scottish( below prem) Welsh and Irish teams to take part. Have early regional group games which will make for some better pre season games then a few regional knockout rounds then final 16 from all regions drawn out of a hat, take turns with final at Wembley, Cardiff, Hampden
No offsides
Any thoughts or ideas from anyone, apart from scrapping it
The problem with this competition is no-one cares unless they actually get to within 1 match of Wembley. So increasing the reward for the winner or runner up doesn't do anything to make the earlier rounds that no-one cares about more interesting.
The only think I can think of is to have the 2 teams closest to each other geographically play each other in the 1st round (so we'd always play Mansfield). At least then all the matches would be local derbies with a slightly better crowd. Also the teams could take it in turns to play at home every other year.
Then do a similar thing in the 2nd round, try to create more local derbies.
basically its crap though, scrap it!
