Simons poor again today, Beesley and Maguire played well, Ched looks promising, Humphreys played well today, Gboly poor today, Liddle did OK

But it's only Ilkeston who we made look poor

Simons not great at Matlock either, only worse player would be Gardner. Only a run around for the lads so I wouldn't read too much into it.

Simons was dreadful in the ressie game at end of last season too.

Glad to hear Maguire did OK, I rly like watching him play football. He's a CB with a brain, I hope he makes the grade. Maybe needs a loan, I dunno.

Wow, a footie thread at last.
How did the Evans/SEB partnership do? Does SEB look committed? Is it worth persevering with or did it look disjointed to the point where you would drop one of them for Jayo?
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

SEB looked very interested, we would have to play 442 to partner SEB and Evans but this partnership has real potential, as many teams will often put 2 players on Evans and free up SEB, also SEB can hold the ball for Ched to make runs
I am looking forward to see how they do against Derby

How similar is Ched to Novak? Can Ched give us width? What would Danny do if Porstmouth come in again for Jayo?

SEB and Ched is a very interesting partnership if SEB bucks his ideas up a bit (CPS won't be a fan of that strike force though to put it politely).

Hard to compare after 60 minutes at Ilkeston but my first thoughts are Ched is better than Novak, he made some good runs from out wide.
As for Oshea, he can be replaced, it was interesting yesterday that Donahue played left back and Dan Jones played left side of midfield where he made some good runs and crosses and took some good free kicks
The Derby game on Tuesday may give us an indication of Danny's thoughts on team selection

Replace Hird with Maguire for first game and fill the missing link with a hopefully new signing

What do we reckon to Maguire? Realistic chance of first team action any time soon? I think he's got potential but obviously those who've seen him more than me will know more.

He's impressed me whenever I've seen him. Good passing range for a young CB, but then I'm a sucker for that to the extent that it stops me from seeing how bad players are defensively sometimes like Stones.

ha ha. I agree. He's not without it.

Good leader, good passer, very hard and committed, dangerous at set pieces. He gets into trouble some times through poor positional play. I think a big decision has got to made about him before September. He's far too good for our reserve standard so he's got to be given a chance, and then if he's not ready he's got to be loaned out. I personally would pick him ahead of Raglan.

Maguire was excellent yesterday, albeit against Ilkeston - he showed all the qualities you mention.
He looks to have come back physically stronger. The 'not without promise' Graham also seems to have come back better than I remember him - looks lighter and quicker.
