They blocked it at every turn before when we tried to get to Wheeldon Mill!

The Wheeldon Mill plan including leisure facilities was challenged because the Alma project was already in the pipeline.

Two very similar sites were simply unsustainable.

However Norton Lea was told a stadium only plan would pose far less of a problem.

As usual he ignored advice and tried to bludgeon his way forward, then blamed everyone but himself when things went awry.

Just for background...
History of council loan is :-
1. £200,000 in 2002 to assist with Administration.
2. £366,000 to pay creditors in 2 instalments (don't know when).
3. £434,000 on Stadium move.

4. £1000,000 total.

Repayment for items 1 and 2 capital and interest was made monthly.
The first charge was transferred from Saltergate to Proact.
The loans attracted a rate of 4% above base.

I've received confirmation from CBC this morning, confirming the same (4% above base rate).

Do you know the total amounts paid to the council?

.........and the football club received the land for the stadium at no cost.

The council got the developers to agree to gift the land

Seems pretty helpful to me!

What I gather from asking around is that the agreement is that the owner or person with first charge on any debt could get a 'change of use' for the land if he paid compo to the developers.

Which might offer an insight into Allen's motives.

Probably a great deal less than the loan amount and the value of the land combined. IMO CBC have no role as any sort of villain in this saga.

The most straightforward way to establish the facts is to carry out a search of the Land Registry entry for the Stadium. It should reveal all and it's an inexpensive way to confirm suspicions or otherwise.

I'm told we paid CBC £860,000 back, the original loan was for £960,000 and it was 4% over base rate

So all the councils detractors who've been claiming they have been nothing but leeches to the club were speaking rubbish? Big surprise there.

We've been very fortunate to have such support.

Is this the total amount or capital amount with undisclosed interest payments?

The total, which included accrued interest (at 4% over base rate) to the date of settlement.

Now that payment has been made the charge has now been released by CBC and transferred to A&S Leisure.

The first payment of the new mortgage commences in October.

Fair play to the council then.

DAs spineless attacks on the council were rubbish from day one and so was all the bull about the regeneration of the area. It doesn't look one jot different from the day the club arrived apart from a couple of outlets that had more to do with Tesco
