A bit like our own fans who arranged a fight with the Swindon fans and when they turned up as they said they would, all the young stone island went inside the pub out the way and didn’t come out until they had gone

Has this thread been bumped from 1974?
These go to eleven.

Pickford looked very good!! Remember how good he was against us in the play offs for Preston

That was Sam Johnstone.

Similarly, when I see players, like Rose who earn circa £100k a week, clearing the penalty area with crosses which trouble nothing but the opposite touchline it does frustrate me.

Definitely the most disappointing thing about the performance. There are £500 A week players who can do that. Value for money!

Pickford played against us for Bradford City when we actually played in Division One

So those pioneers of total football the Dutch were in white whilst the huffing, puffing, get-it-to-the-big-man England were in orange...yeah?

'Cos from where I was sat it was the team in white playing the fluent, confident football whilst those in orange resorted to some pretty basic stuff.

Infact the only real chances enjoyed by those in orange came when those in white cocked-up.

Pace all over the park for an England side without it's talisman striker - I've never been a fan of Stirling but his and Lingard's performance meant Deli Ali has to buck his ideas up - and they/we actually looked well organised at the back for once.

Everyone knows England lack the individual talent that the top sides possess. But maybe, just perhaps, a squad with no expectations placed upon it might surprise a few people...

Having spent the whole day watching extended highlights of the friendlies - my (humble) summary:

Russia: Hapless. Out first round
Brazil: Revitalised - will go far perhaps especially without Neymar
England: Improving. But still not reliable
Egypt: Decent. Past group stage
Portugal: Jammy. Nowt special apart from aging Ronaldo. Luck might carry them to quarters but no further.
France: Careless. Especially at the back - out b4 quarters
Colombia: Alright. Have temerity to take them to R2.
Uruguay: Disruptive. Good front line but link up play is nowt special - round 2 and then out even with Suarez
Argentina: Talented. Individually, and starting - belatedly - to come together? With Messi, semis are possible. With organisation, much more. (Italy hopeless, though)
Spain: Mechanical. In a good way - showed they haven’t lost their touch in any sense and had purpose vs Germans in a difficult tie. Decent bet for winners if they can sort out a ponderous defence.
Germany: Disjointed. The opposite of Spain. Clinical but relied on long range shots. Won’t go as far as final.

Wonder how the lad McTominay is feeling, too.

Could've been associated with a squad coming back from the Netherlands with a win but opted for the one getting beat by Costa Rica at home...

Like I said (to loads of ridicule 😂) we're going to win the damned thing!

I've put money on Belgium as well although I think their infighting means they are the new Holland

Like someone on a podcast I listened to said, can’t imagine Roberto Martinez lifting the WC. I’d put my money on Brazil

I tend to think with Belgium that people get swept away with the individual talent they have, and forget about the importance of actually putting a team together out of that talent. Wilmots was a poor manager, Martinez is nowt special and I think it would take a strong manager to make some unpopular decisions to create a team, not just let the stars do what they like
