To say the least its not been a good day - but the final straw was to be confronted by the image of our self serving MP on Player
proclaiming that the B2 Net Stadium "is a great asset to the town" which is more than I can say for him.

We should be thankful that its not an asset his local party can sell off like Tapton golf course and similar plans for the Winding Wheel.

As another poster suggested they'll all "come out the woodwork" on opening day maybe Mr Holmes can bring along some of the £9900
"windfall" he got on the flat we rented for him; and buy us all a drink. Oh and bring a couple of the four cameras we paid for, to get a few shots
for the Focus propaganda sheet.

I've had letters from both him and Vince Cable.

I must be some sort of target voter.

Rest assured they were quickly lining the recycling box.

Holmes' expenses makes interesting reading..

Over £900 for a wardrobe??

Anyway, back to the thread. There will be all kinds of folk crawling out of the woodwork when Dema opens for the first game, its human nature. Well it is for politicians anyway.

Not much chance of getting Holmes out I wouldn't have thought.

What do we do?

In my opinion he needs removing for his antics whatever his protestations but do Labour deserve the town to return an MP for them?

Maybe move this thread and it can be debated properly?

You're quite right - no desire to start a political debate but can't see why Holmes should feature on Player and be allowed access
to B2 Net site when we are told access is difficult, even to mend the bldy webcam. Guess 'elf and saftey don't apply to him, maybe he
could select a seat for me <_<

You have to be pragmatic about these things, having invited Holmes, Engel and Skinner to meet about the Community Trust. The Town's MP is an approriate figure to have as a Champion for the venue.

In terms of the Trust Paul Holmes has offered practical assistance, Natascha Engel has sent representatives to events and Dennis is supportive and has at least stood as a regular on the terraces.

To be fair, he was about the only person in westminster to forecast the `bankers` debacle, a good year or so before it happened.
A new hope.

Where is the evidence in this?

He looks great because he is never really challanged. The recent TV debate saw him and Darling having a pop at Osbourne, then him and Osbourne having a go at Darling. He lives in a bubble because his policies will NEVER be properly scrutanised due to the fact the Lib Dems will never win power.

The good guy in politics? ask Charles Kennedy the man he stabbed in the back time and time again.

Crikey, yes. It might take up the many broad acres otherwise occupied by peurile points-scoring about spelling and punctuation - then where would we be?

Me, too - they must be livid at having to spend money on this to repair the damage Holmes has caused. I have been over the Holmes letter with a fine-toothed comb but cannot find the word "Sorry" anywhere, much less the phrase "I promise I won't do it again."

1200 people have to change their vote. It's marginal - but are Labour capable of doing enough to win it, since it was laregly complacency that lost it in the first place?

I think the future of our country for the next five years is worth a mention at thevery least. There have been plenty of none CFC issues on here that are far less important.

I've been inundated with material from the Labour Party recently, loads of completely useless slanted questions such as "would you like to have your fingers cut off?" (some artistic license and exaggeration may be in use, but seriously the questions are beyond belief!). It would be an interesting contest here in Chesterfield had the Labour Party put forward an old style socialist candidate, however they didn't so therefore i doubt many traditional Labour voters will return to the fold. I know the current Labour candidate, and whilst he's a nice enough fella he does come across as a bit of a "Blairite Wet" and seems to simply toe the party line on most topics.
In the interests of balance i'd also like to point out that i'm sick of getting Lib-Dem literature that simply appeals to Tories not to waste their votes in the Chesterfield constituency, and therefore request that they vote tactically.

sermon over.

Interesting points - the struggle between the parties to look as identical to eachother as possible is a huge insult to the electorate, and all the three biggest ones do it.

Did you honestly expect that self promoting bandwaggon jumper to miss out on a photo opportunity?

Jeez, i thought everyone knew that Lib Dem politicians appear like the shopkeeper in 'Mr Ben' whenever a photographer removes his lens cap.

Strangely, they're far less likely to be seen when questions surrounding the mess they've made of our town's finances require answers.

As for Holmes, he might be good at getting his face in the media as often as humanly possible, but what exactly has he done for the town of Chesterfield?

PS: interesting to hear Cameron claim he speaks on behalf of "the ignored" this morning (though his words were slightly garbled given the silver spoon in his mouth). That'll be everyone living on a Chesterfield council estate, then. After all, when was the last time any of us saw a Tory politician? Mind you, i'm not complaining...
