Looks like they're seling two players this week to cover short-term costs, bu well short of the £6m needed to see the season out (although they've made massive redundancies of the field so that may have reduced)

Read a fair number of the staff have said they'll work for free until the end of the season.

Wigans a great little community club from what I remember from my time living there, quite a close knit one with a good relationship between fans, community & club. Something I wish we had for sure

Rick Parry has spoken with the BBC re Wigan.
https://www.bbc.co.u...otball/53341269
Touches on fit and proper, sustainable community clubs and championship club finances.
He’s back tracking on the relegation bet story.
“The likelihood that a Philippines bookmaker would take a substantial bet on a club to be relegated is almost nil. It is not going to happen - it is very implausible."

Parry's also made comments bemoaning the support from the Premier League and the F.A. - bit rich considering he's worked for both of those (and was very much a driving force in the creation of the PL itself) and wasn't too fussed about the smaller clubs back then.

Seems as though when the deduction is applied depends on where they finish this season :-

4 nil up already tonight.
Looks like they can avoid the bottom 3 even with a 12 pt deduction.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Must have a good Manager there

A try and a conversion and Hull will be back in it.

Paul Cook’s words after tonight:
“We've also got sympathy for Hull. It's great to win as we have but management is tough at the minute and I've got some feelings for them because it's very tough for them, that's for sure.”
Not far off word for word what he said after we put six past Colchester all that time ago.

I think that the 12 points deduction gets carried over to next season if it doesn't relegate them.

Not sure that’s quite right.
Per BBC - “Should Wigan finish in the relegation zone, the penalty will be applied during the 2020-21 season instead.”
Which is not the same as ‘if it doesn't relegate them’.

if they finish the season in the relegation spots, they start next season on -12pts.

if they finish outside the releagtion spots, the deduction gets applied this season, even if it would then relegate them (barring any appeal, obviously).

Its to stop what happened a few seasons (wrexham??) where they were put into admin at 4.40pm during the last game of the season, and were losing about to be relegated anyway.

Hope they stay up. Have a small soft spot for them having lived up for a bit - and with Cook, Morsy and Roberts there they are hard to to take an interest in. They're making a damn good go of staying up now though so hopefully they can get another couple of wins to do it.

Their wages are 178% of their turnover (IIRC) so massively overspending and unless you have a Dave Whelan type (which would go against FFP rules now) its toally unsustainable.

Being investigated for selling the ground to the owner (Derby also in trouble for doing this). Been rumbling on most of season. Couple of my mates who support Wednesday are bricking it as it’d mean relegation.
Think the elf have left it late to do anything this season. More likely to start next season on a minus figure.

Slightly more complicated than that. They sold the ground to the owner, but recorded it in their accounts a financial year earlier so enabling them to make a profit and comply with financial FairPlay rules.

Is auditing deteriorating into a shady profession?
Why would one allow that to happen?
