He could have had one season in the championship, kept the budget similar, told the manager his job was safe no matter the outcome and to plan for the next season in L1. And had a heap of tv money to clear debts and build the next season. Imagine the average crowds from a promotion, a season in the championship and then a season challenging again.

But that all depended on a well club making the most of its resources, not a shower of **** chancers spending someone else’s money with no thought form consequences

I was more in mind of Burnley and their first season in the premier league, but yeah that sort of idea Chris
A new hope.

Sounds like the take-over included a cash injection from th new owners, which never appeared.

The players had already agreed to defer wages for 3 months, i think.

EFL’s fit and proper test fails yet again. Not fit for purpose.

Is this partly down to the Paul Cook effect, players on big bonuses for wins etc, we made massive losses even during our 2 good seasons under him, despite lucrative cup runs,.. (OK Derby away), a trip to Wembley a promotion season and playoff season, resulting in bumper crowds..

Not one bit. Paul Cook like any other manager had budgets set by the board of this club and used them accordingly. It can be argued the incentives worked as we had a team that looked hungry and actually wanted to win. Look at what happened after, we just shelled out massive contracts to crocks like Ebanks-Blake and Martinez who spent all their time here unsurprisingly injured or just hoovering up their big pay cheques and not giving a toss and we've not had one semblance of a decent team since.

The financials of this club belong entirely to the board, and sadly they have shown to be incredibly incompetent when it comes to the clubs finances.
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!

Reflecting on Dave Allen's decisions in the 2014/15 season, if he "bottled it" when promotion to the Championship became a real possibility, then perhaps the figures above provide some context to what his concerns might have been.

(Instead of course he subsequently found an alternative way of losing £ millions).

If you run your club fiscally responsibly then it should never be a concern. Wigan just shot through the leagues without having time to consolidate and have a ground that far outstrips their support and must cost a fortune. Fax in the big wages and they've just not got the platform to sustain that level of football.

If we'd have got promoted we could have spent within our means and see what happened, very few of our living fans have seen second tier football so a relegation straight back down would have been offset by the experience of higher level football. Use the extra TV and league money smartly, invest it into your club into your youth facilities, training complexes, general infrastructure and next time you go up your that much more prepared as your producing higher quality home grown players and not spending on transfers, the facilities to attract better players and a better economy to sustain football at that level. Even it happens a few times it pays off in the long run.

But IF DA chose to not let us have that option as you imply, he basically said that unless we get a Saudi investor we are not even going to attempt to give you second tier football. What kind of a message does that send to future fans that they'll be supporting a club that has no interest in promotion to the championship? And now look where we are, fighting it out in the relegation scrap in the conference two years running.

The ground is shared with the egg chasers so they should be sharing costs on that.

More seats don't necessarily mean higher costs.

All of that suggests some long term plan, a plan to benefit the club, the supporters and the area in general.

I dont think there was ever any of that in DA's 'plan' here (if there ever was one at all)

His 7 years at Sheffield Wednesday did not stop his championship spiel once he came here!

Surely a manager would know the motivational limits of a package and what incentives to give. Many football club owners would be quite happy to go along thinking it would bring success and not really factoring in any future cash shortfalls?

Sounds like the transaction to buy them 4 weeks ago is being called in to question, as it took place in Hong Kong and its reported the their is some common people between both organisations and that old owners loaned the new owners the money to buy them out.

Where have we heard that before......

Still gutted about the Casino closing back in 81. Wonder if they can revive both the Football Club and the Casino Club together.
