Think it was tied in with the shifts at Tube works.

From what I can remember Town and Bury were the only teams to have 3.15 kick offs. Also our night games always kicked off at 7.15 when it was 7.30 normally in that era.

Arthur Cox altered the times and also switched to Tuesday from Wednesday?

Brass band at half time.
Throwing pennies in the blanket.
Cheeselets from the kiosk at the top of Compton Street end.
Checking the half times against the alphabet in the programme.
The smell of pipe tobacco.
My boss pulling up his shorts.

The embarrassing winter time 2.15 kick offs when we were the only FL side without floodlights.

He used to put his thumbs in the top of his shorts and run them round a few times. Plenty of room for his tackle.

Minute I read that, I knew who you were talking about, and that’s before I saw your user name!
I think it was because his shorts kept falling from his fat gut.

Hurdling at full pelt the series of hedges in the gardens fronting the Town Hall, uphill to get to the ground first, then downhill to catch the D4 back to Stonebroom.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

The old wooden half-time scoreboard and the scraping of the metal numbers plates as they were slid in. You could also shelter under there if it rained. Town reserves always first and usually losing.

You've missed borrowing someone's programme so you could see what the "letters" referred too.

Start of 78/79 under Arthur Cox, still have nightmares of the time trials we undertook from the bar to the ground.
