To be fair it was hardly a regular thing back then. We had the FA Cup run and that one decent run in the league cup where we beat Wolves, City and West Ham before coming unstuck on pens against Charlton.

It was only recently at the Proact that we managed to finally beat a league club in the FA Cup for the first time since beating Wrexham to make the semi final!!

I’m pretty certain that until 1996-97 we officially had the worst FA Cup record of any ever present league club over the post war years, just two 3rd round appearances from 1969-70 to 1995-6, and 42 seasons since a round four appearance.

Beating top sides in the cup at home, West Ham, Man City etc. Now we’re lucky to get past round one :(

We're lucky to even make the first round of the FA Cup nowadays.
West Ham and Man City were League Cup, so that's gone, too.
These go to eleven.

Yep, shameful isn't it.

And we went 11 consecutive years getting knocked out of the League Cup in the 1st round, who can forget Hudders at home. 3:1 up going into injury time, what could possibly go wrong!!

The old guy standing outside Saltergate selling the "Green Un"
The characters on Compton Street and their wonderful wit and use of the English Vocabulary.
The crowd listening to the scores on their transistor radios on the way home and ear wigging trying to pick up on what was happening
The corner sandwich shop for sweets and drinks
Bodens chip shop in Bodens Alley
"Gesler" King of the kop and all his cronies.
Saturday specials at the station laid on to Rotherham/ Barnsley / Donny etc
Walking into Saltergate mid week during the day to watch the team train on the pitch and chatting to the players.(yes you could really do that back then)
The smell of stale alcohol and beer on the Kop at 3.15 kick offs
Scarves round the neck in an "over and under" style and also tied around the wrist. Levi denim Jackets with feather cut hairstyle.
There aint no Soul left in these old shoes... since you've been gone

Pre-match in the social club, the kop to compton street (or opposite direction), back in the social club after the game. Walking home with a bag of chips from Dave's. Happy times...

Simply, night matches at the Rec. Kop full, rain lashing down and southern teams who 'didn't fancy it' getting put to the sword. Marvellous!

A normal season playing (and often beating!) the likes of Bournemouth, Brentford, Burnley and Luton.

Doc Maarten boots and fashion alert double denim. Jeans not to long as to cover the ox blood shine of the boots. Add a blue and white scarf and you don’t need gok wonn to tell you how great you look. 😀
