Defensively he was ok and he certainly didn’t lack effort, but technically I think he’s the worst professional footballer I’ve ever seen.

I like to think Ivan invented what became Dennis Law's (and later Mick Channon's) trademark celebration- one hand in the cuff of a long sleeve, whirring around like a windmill.

Worst signing from Mansfield- (fat) Bill Curry.

Dont forget the Ivan shuffle as well which left many a defender on his backside.

Remember him coming back with Crewe and leaving Charlie Bell stranded with the shuffle, the Pop side thought it was hilarious

He was, but if you remember, on his debut, he was brilliant.

Not sure about that. Barnsley at home. He scored, and sat on their keeper whilst Ivan put the ball in the net for the other goal, but we lost. Never scored again for us.

To get the thread back on topic, I wouldn't go much above the reported £80K for this Clucas lad.

If we really do see him as one for the future, we could revisit things in January when he'd be in the last few months of his contract. Our little neighbours would then have to accept whatever they could get or face the lottery of a tribunal.

And given he's not even starting games their position would be pretty weak.

Did folk see that Scunny may have paid something like £250k for Billy Kee? So much, that Torquay, per Torquay, are in line to pick up circa £80k sell on fee.
Wow.

At that, £80k for Clucas would be a bargain.

No tribunal. He's 24 in September.
Better to agree a fee now if we want him rather than try to compete with bigger clubs when he's a free agent.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Scunthorpe's midweek attendance? 2,700.

And DA thinks we aren't turning up in quite the required numbers.

Doesn't the tribunal cover 24 and under?

I don't really know if this "potential" signing excites me or not. I have obviously heard of Sam Clucas just off of here alone but when I see that he's a midfielder. It deflates me a little because we seem to be ignoring the obvious which to me is a striker.
I'd be more excited about being in negotiations for a non league striker than what I am now. Don't get me wrong in Mr Cook we have a manager who I trust wholeheartedly but I just can't seem to raise a smile about yet another midfielder and not an out & out striker.

Is it possible that we might be looking at pushing Roberts further forward up the pitch?
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

gotta be up there - I think he had 9 irons instead of feet, as he used to slice the ball every time he tried to kick it

I`m not sure about this. We have a good few attacking midfielders, while we are short in numbers in other areas of the squad - unless PC thinks he can turn him into an out and out striker - Henry and Arsenal?
A new hope.

Paul Cook wants to operate Roberts behind the Striker in a more central position. With Ritchie out as well, the Club needs to strengthen the left hand side, as well as exploit Roberts' ability in a different position.

Mansfield have no intention of selling him to us...why else would they announce our enquiry on their website. They are trying to provoke a bidding war and attempting to curry favour with their supporters by being seen to rebuff our interest.

Personally i think we'd be better of biding our time...pick him up for nowt later if he's not fixed himself up over the remainder of this season.
