With all the injuries taken into account the position so far is quite remarkable.

Looking through the squad? Its pleasing to see Tommy Lee's development in terms of the mix of catching/punching crosses. Both the current centre backs are solid and compliment each other (Raglan also looks useful). Hird is also a good footballing Centre Back. Both full back positions, in a defensive sense, are relatively poor. Darikwa still cannot pass the ball consistently and gets done on the inside too easily. Jones positional play is poor and he's too easily done on the outside. For me it's the weaknesses down the flanks that causing the problem in the goals against column. Ryan and Morsy are top class - we'll do well to keep Morsy to the end of the season. Johnson is a real find - I hope we can confirm him to the end of the season at the earliest opportunity. Roberts work rate is much improved - he's always had the class. Clucas - Sat showed what we've got - needs playing consistently and in his best position. O'Shea - work rate much improved. A good option to have on your bench. Banks and Gardner are quality players - Banks in particular is too good to have on the bench but how do you accomodate him? Doyle - now we see the quality player that's always been there. If he keeps scoring at the current rate we'll do well to keep him until the end of the season. Armand - we've coached the unpredictability out of him - its unclear what we've replaced this with.

Any issues - take Doyle's goals away and you see a very skewed and different picture.

So its congratulations to Mr.Cook, Mr. Turner and Mr. Allen (the correct accounts show the scale of the ongoing backing).

Looking forward? January will be interesting as I expect CFC to cash in on at least one of its assets. It will also afford the opportunity to sort the defensive problems and this may well involve the departure of at least one of the existing full backs.
A triumph of hope over expectation
