Why not put them on £2500 a month and let them take a mortgage and council tax holiday like the rest of us
They can’t work like the rest of us, their employer’s are going under, I don’t see the difference
Premier League should do it as well but give the Government back the £2500 a month in some other type of donation

Is there any point, it will only increase future payments, same as the mortgage holiday, so if you can just afford to pay it.. I would.

Its only applicable to people whose jobs are at risk to prevent those jobs being lost. Given footballers have protected employment they should not be using taxpayers money to pay them when times are tough, that money should be spent on those with less protection...

Think he means in that if a club went into admin they are protected and get paid in full i believe like the tax man and not like suppliers etc who might only get so many pence in the pound under an administration deal.

Can you make a footballer redundant?
If not, can they qualify for a furlough payment which is designed to prevent jobs being made redundant..?
ETA that it doesnt seem as bad as someone being in the gig economy with no rights, or those on zero hours contracts, or even those in industries prone to downturn and hiring and firing....
I'm not going to start feeling sorry for footballers in the higher echelons just yet. If they are plying their trade in the national league then it is probably less comfortable for them now - but they will be paid to the end of their contracts unless the club goes bust.
Now until the job protection scheme was announced there were HUNDREDS of our staff who couldn't say that...

Not saying they all falsify their tax return but I'm sure one or 2 may and may just drop themselves in it??

"@danroan - Spurs say 550 non-playing staff will take 20% pay cut for next 2 months & use govt’s furlough job retention scheme in attempt to "protect jobs".
Net worth of Spurs owner Joe Lewis: £4.3billion
Pay of chair Daniel Levy: £7m
Average players’ pay: £76k/week

This in stark contrast to Barcelona, and fair play to Barca .

Norwich have just done the same as Spurs.
Bournemouth have told accomodation providers for their youth team players that they will no longer be paid during this pandemic. Lovely.

Spurs continue to pay players in full, while the “plebs” get a pay cut. That’s disgusting. I hope the season goes neyonf the deadline and the 700+ million has to be paid back. The premier league is obscene. I hope it goes pop.
