The term 'game management' has been brought into sharper focus by the actions/admissions of a certain individual lately, but I've hated it ever since it emerged.... I had originally thought of it as playing smartly for the context, for example playing possession football when ahead, but now (in our league especially) it is too often a euphemism for "time -wasting, with a connotation of exploiting officials' weaknesses".

I also notice that younger, supposedly more progressive coaches always refer to their players as 'the group'- not something I can dislike too much as Sean Dyche does it and I'm a huge fan of his, but I've noticed it gaining credence.

What modern football terminology makes your toes curl?

drop zone, something we have become too familiar with in recent seasons, always used to be relegation zone, I thought drop zone was something to do with American football

Or "frame of the goal"...bar or post. It's actually easier to state which one it hit. I also struggle with "strike" instead of shot.

cultured left foot... no one who can pass a ball well with their right is ever described as having a cultured right foot, only ever the left, what does it mean anyway, the left foot has read some poetry? studied art etc??? whilst i'm on it, "our footballing philosophy" and finally people who describe the feeling of scoring a goal as "surreal"

managers starting sentences with "Listen.." it sounds arrogant and impolite. Sheridan is one of them!

"To be fair" (another over-used phrase) managers probably have to use that phrase constantly so as to get players to pay any attention.
These go to eleven.

"I've seen them given".

If you've watched enough football then you've seen penalties given and not given for all manner of incidents.
These go to eleven.

They gave it a 110 percent. How can you ? Surely 100 percent is the maximum.
