To be honest, I think the 'naughty elbows' count was about equal for both sides. Generally the standard of play was very good, and although U.S. started stronger, it was pretty even in the end. I do, however, have a gripe about the missed penalty though. Neville should have ordered White to take it. Houghton was brave to put herself forward, but you could tell which way she was going - from the position she stood in the ball could only go one way. Of course she got a very poor connection on it anyway, but the keeper was already a yard towards the ball before Houghton's foot made contact with it. Overall I think England did really well to come back strongly after both U.S. goals, and it was a positive advert for the game.

How can you order someone to take it? If white doesn’t fancy it making her take won’t help.
Houghton May have said pre kick off that she’d take it. She just wasn’t very good at it.

I thought the manager was in charge of the team. If it was me I'd TELL my most effective goalscorer to take them. Three missed from the last four taken suggests a different approach is needed.

I refer you to Old Trafford 1997, 1-0 up v Middlesbrough, then a penalty, no one appears willing to take it..cue John Duncan..pointing at Dychey.."you're the skipper, you've got the armband on..YOU TAKE IT"..!
East stand second class citizen.

Had she taken any before? Better to aim for top half of net, they are rarely if ever saved as keepers invariably dive left or right

Houghton has a decent technique when striking the ball, I thought she’d welly it into top corner, was shocked with that tame effort. As bad of a pen as you’ll see.

Could there be an opportunity for CFC here on the back of the sudden lift in the profile of the Womens game? Am I right in thinking our womens side is improving? Maybe they could play their games at the Proact, to provide another revenue stream.

One problem, my friend - the so called development squad has just been exiled to Staveley to supposedly protect the Proact pitch.

Can't see our lasses being allowed onto turf so hallowed it has 'Keep Off The Grass' signs around it...

How do we know its purely to protect the pitch? How do we know other links aren't being developed?

Edit:- I reckon Bronze should have took the pen

Got to say, honestly, I’ve enjoyed this England teams progression much much more than southgates team in the WC. It’s been good honest football, warts and all. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole tournament so far. And the lack of egos has been refreshing

It's women; there are no egos in general. Me excepted: I B****Y love me — but, you know, someone's gotta *blush* (can't find a blushy emoji).

Seriously, it was a really good game. We could have won and, on a different night, we might well have done.

Until the Euros then ..... about which my next door neighbour wisely noted "we might have a chance as they're not allowed in that". Fair point.

Let's reconvene in a couple of years.

Unfortunately Stevie USA are unbeatable at the moment, and they didn't even have their best player on the pitch. They simply play at a level above everyone else although we are catching up rapidly. Who knows if we get investment and publicity in the women's game we will soon be at their level and hopefully better.
