Ernie, it actually looks like we are starting the season with a right-back, we didn't last season, so that's an improvement for a start.

We, hopefully, have a number of first team players returning from long-term injuries which should be an improvement over the second half of the season. These players include a proper left-back.

Danny has said he us looking for a left-sided centre-back. If he gets one this should add balance to the defence.

Similarly, we are expected to have better cover in the goal-keeping department.

We have more competition in midfield and, possibly, up front.

My statement regarding players not necessarily having to be better than we already have was made with the view that if we are signing cover for certain positions then you would not expect the cover to be as good, or paid as much, as the first choice for that position.

Imagine we sign him. He and Evans hit it off massively and score 15+ each by Christmas. We sell them for a million each in January. That would wind them up.
