The crowd funding page has now ended with the final total being £3.073.21p.

Just Giving deduct the following : 5% to cover their costs,13p for each credit card payment and 17p for each debit card payment.

I am informed that the remaining total should be deposited in my bank account on or around the 3rd of August.

I will then contact the Moss family and arrange for the money to be handed over to them.

Once again my many thanks to all that have so readily contributed.

It's certainly been an experience that I will never forget.

I had hoped to raise a few hundred at the most, however the emotions of that first few hours on the initial Friday night when the £2k target was surpassed just before midnight will remain with me forever.

The love for Ernie from us the real supporters of CFC at the end of that night reduced me to tears.

Respect to all of you.

Regards Nigel.

Good work Nige, i thought this was already included in the £14k already handed over, i would assume this is extra ?

Yes Keith this is completely extra.

I will publish a final figure when Just Giving notify me.

The handover of the final total will then be made publicly to the Moss Family.

Hi Sarah, I'm sure the word "memories" is a difficult one given the circumstances. But like I tried to explain to my son and nephew over the last few years watching Jack Lester...remember this time lads, because the names you grow up with are the names that shape your football following lives, they are names you never forget, they are moments that no matter what happens in your football lives you will always remember. They are moments that live with you forever.
I'm 50 years young this year, yet I still see Ernie as Chesterfields centre forward, I still remember it all, standing at the old wooden gate at the Cross street end of the main stand, when they ran out..your dad, Terry Shanahan, Tingay, Kowalski, Darling and the rest. We grow old, memories don't.
Some fans have a Keegan, others a Cantona, some a Lineaker, the older ones even a Geoff Hurst or Jimmy Greaves.. My son has a Jack Lester, and I hope he remembers him for his footballing life.
Me, well I've got an Ernie Moss, and I'm happy enough with that!
East stand second class citizen.

Sums it up perfectly for me, simply the standout town player of his generation.... and when he scores, Saltergate roars Ernie, Ernie Moss!

Absolutely fantastic effort from all concerned, if only the people running our club had the same enthusiasm for the club that you do we would be in a much better place. I am not even talking about being in a higher league. The family run club feeling seems to have exited and been replaced with a them and us feeling.

Scott, Scott, Scott... it's about gestures and doing the right thing by people, even when you don't have to. The club have screwed up massively. Ernie did nothing but give - to the club and to individuals in the community. I'll give you an example of Ernie's gestures to my family, over a couple of years -no doubt, I might even get beaten with the 'holier-than-thou' stick in the process, but here goes.

My mother passed away when I was in primary school. I'm one of four siblings (we were 6,8,10 &12 at the time), and the sport-mad one the family. We definitely grew up poor, but very much-loved. When my dad gave up work to raise us on his own, all my sports gear was bought from Moss and Miller. Geoff knew dad well and was sympathetic to our situation, but Ernie was amazing.

Knowing dad couldn't afford to buy boots and other things outright for a growing boy, Ernie ran his own line of weekly credit for dad. This involved dad visiting and discussing the weekend results in the stock room; taking payment in private and allowing dad to retain some dignity, as well a chat about how things were and how he, and we, were coping.

Dad always apologised when he paid an installment entirely in coins, and Ernie always told him he had nothing to apologise for. Ernie made dad feel special and yet normal at the same time. He didn't have to do any of this, and I thanked him profusely when I found out about this years later.

It's been said that the true test of a man's character is what he does when nobody's looking. Ernie made sure nobody was looking each time he met my dad. That's character. That's not a man deserving of your paltry remarks. I've contributed anonymously to the stewarding fund and also directly to the charity funds. It's only right to reciprocate.

Ernie didn't have to help my family, but chose to. He reached out when we 'needed' help. At this time, I can't think of not fully supporting Sarah and Nikki in their efforts to collect every penny that Ernie and these charities deserve.

It brings it back to my first line - doing the right thing by people, even when you don't have to.

Bump. This is the post you wanted?
A new hope.

Indeed, that classic back post downward header would be iconic.

If a sculpture is too expensive how about a Blakey type mosaic, maybe 6 times bigger, to be mounted high on the West Stand cladding, and lit up?

bump
....or even in the foyer?
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

? ! I take it you aren't aware Ernie can no longer sign his name and has all but lost his power of speech.
